Why Your Role Matters:
The Research and Development Manager will manage the research operations, implementation, and Development of commercial outcomes for research projects and programs at the Centre for Social Impact (CSI) within the UNSW Business School. The Research and Development Manager plays a key leadership role in developing new research programs via external development and engagement activities.
Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities for this role include (but are not limited to):
- Lead the CSI Research and Development team, delivering a high level of staff supervision, mentoring and Development, managing workloads, coordinating projects and contracts, and oversight of duties that contribute to a streamlined service delivery.
- Provide high level support to the Research and Innovation Director to strategically position and represent CSI’s Research Portfolio while developing and maintaining relationships with key contacts in industry, business, and organisations at state, national, and international levels to identify and obtain funding streams, and achieve commercial outcomes.
- Work closely with the Research and Innovation Director, ensuring a strategic link is maintained between the development of CSI’s core Research and industry.
- Work with the Research and Innovation Director on the development of CSI’s research strategic plan and the alignment of resources with the strategic goals of the centre, including effective oversight and management of the centre’s research budget.
- Provide high level information and timely advice on a wide range of significant research issues, including recruitment and retention planning for high performing researchers, to ensure the Centre meets strategic research objectives.
- Keep informed of local, national and international research policies and work with the Research and Innovation Director to develop and implement guidelines and procedures that optimise research outcomes.
Skills and experience required (but not limited to):
- Relevant postgraduate qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training, and experience.
- High-level conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to translate complex business requirements into effective reporting and research solutions for a broad range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in the strategic review and preparation of proposals in the collaborative research space and successful management of contracts with positive outcomes.
- Demonstrated evidence of leading and developing targeted strategic planning and implementation of support programs for researchers applying for research funding.
- High level organisational and project management skills with experience in leading a team to deliver critical operational tasks for a wide variety of stakeholders in a deadline driven environment.
- Understanding and experience in the production of research outputs such as publications, presentations and other translational impacts.
