Your New Role
We are seeking a Safety & Training Officer to join our Cleveland team to support the safety and training framework of the business with a strong focus on delivering safety compliance training.
Key Accountabilities
- Deliver safety training to workshop employees in accordance with training plans and Safe Working Procedures. This will involve delivering training across a range of different occupational job roles across the business.
- Maintain training data bases, training records and administrative processes as necessary. Refine and improve these processes where necessary
- Co-ordinate external training providers and programs where necessary
- Compile competency reports in line with Training Plans and Safe Working Procedures. Where an employee is not deemed competent provide further training & mentoring support to assist the employee to achieve competency standards.
- To co-ordinate the Apprenticeship Program including liaison with apprentices, apprenticeship providers, TAFE and Trade Colleges. To mentor & support Apprentices with progressing through their Apprenticeship & achieving competency standards.
- To assist with on-boarding new employees in delivering induction training & on-going training support to enable employees to develop the required competency standards in a timely manner.
- To assist the WH&S Manger with developing and writing Safe Working Procedures & Training Plans to ensure safety compliance across the business.
- Assist with various operational safety needs such as purchase and distribution of PPE, conducting workplace inspections, recording and investigating incidents, writing safety reports, reviewing staff injury & rehabilitation plans, coordinating first aid and liaising with staff on a variety of risk issues
- Lead and co-ordinate the safety representative committee meetings
- Act as a safety champion who continually promotes and contributes to a proactive safety culture within a busy steel manufacturing environment
- Periodically travel to other company venues including the warehouse facility (located at Morningside) and Kunda Park factory
- Assist with first aid requirements
- Assist the Safety, HR, Production and Transport teams on a variety of matters as required.
Key Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to deliver safety training to effectively champion a training safety culture in a fast-paced manufacturing business.
- A demonstrated understanding of WH&S legislation, Code of Practice and current safety practices
- Integrate safety compliance requirements into training systems & processes relevant to a manufacturing environment.
- Highly developed written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with trade based staff
- Proven ability in building strong relationships and rapport suitable for a manufacturing environment
- Strong analytical skills to collect and analyse information, problem solve & make effective decisions & find positive solutions.
- Developed computer literacy skills, specifically with Microsoft office suite.
- A safety-first mindset.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment is desirable
- Provide first aid
- Current QLD Drivers Licence (manual)
