Commercial Fire Group (CFG) are a growing national fire services business with our head office in Melbourne and branches in Sydney and regional NSW, Victoria. GFG specialises in all facets of the fire protection industry providing a turnkey solution. We design, supply and install, service and maintain, all essential fire systems and equipment.
The Position
The successful applicant will be a self-motivated, high achieving accountant who relishes variety, has an eye for detail and enjoys being part of a close-knit team. This is a key role as we look to enhance our financial reporting systems across two recent acquisitions. The Senior Accountant role will be integral to establishing this function, with further plans to grow the team. It will provide a great breadth of exposure and opportunity to contribute to a growing fire services business.
The Senior Accountant will have the primary responsibility for operational finance functions across two operating subsidiaries. Additionally, the role will provide an opportunity to assist with finance strategy, engage directly with all the senior stakeholders and to define a career path with an exciting emerging Australian company.
The successful applicant for this position will be Melbourne based.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting – end to end finance function for two operating companies, including but not limited to financial reporting, tax compliance, AR/AP, payroll, job costing, cash/treasury management.
Management – oversee a small team of bookkeeper doing accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll including maintaining payroll records, accurately processing wages including compliance with relevant awards and regulations, STP reporting, payroll tax, superannuation compliance.
Reconciliations – Balance Sheet reconciliations, reconciliations to internal systems.
Tax compliance – responsible for preparing portfolio tax obligations (GST, PAYG, payroll tax).
Contract Management – responsible for task associated with providing project services to building contractors including contract management, progress claims, retentions, Sub-Contractor Reconciliations, WIP Reporting.
Monthly reporting – assist in prepare monthly internal reporting, and annual statutory reporting obligations for the companies.
Stakeholder Management – Establish and manage stakeholder relationships across different functions of the portfolio companies to ensure business needs are being met.
Compliance – Maintain the compliance register.
Skills and Experience
Must have’s
- 5+ years’ accounting experience
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Australian permanent resident
- Experience accounting for SMEs
- Bachelors degree in Commerce or Business (Accounting)
Excellent attention to detail
A combination of some of the following technical skills and experience
- Experience with MYOB
- Advanced Excel abilities
- CA/CPA qualifications or working towards
- Operational accounting experience
- Experience in project and/or construction industry
- Adept at process improvement, including implementation and system improvements
