We are seeking an experienced Senior Lawyer to join the Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA). This role is required to contribute to the achievement of the RTA strategic objectives through provision of timely legal and legislative advice and consultancy services.
This position is a fixed-term, full-time role until 31 December 2025 and is located in the Brisbane CBD.
The role will be part of a legal team that provides services across the RTA, responding quickly and effectively to non-routine and urgent matters requiring advice.

The role of the Senior Lawyer is to provide high level quality legal advice and assist the team to provide legal opinion to the Chief Executive, the RTA Board, executive management and employees across a wide range of legal matters.
To be successful you will need:
- Demonstrated ability to provide legal advice arising from legislation administered by the RTA including proposed amendments to the legislation.
- Experience in drafting, reviewing and finalising QITC contracts, agreements and other arrangements with a focus on key commercial considerations that apply to the RTA.
- High standard of statutory interpretation skills with the ability to review analyse and interpret compliance obligations applicable to the RTA.
- The ability to collaborate and maintain strategic working relationships with RTA staff and relevant external organisations and individuals to enhance the RTA's capacity to effectively meet and manage its legal obligations, including those obligations imposed on the RTA as a statutory authority.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with management and employees at all levels of the RTA and prepare reports and submissions on complex legal issues in relation to the RTA's compliance requirements.
- The ability to work under pressure in an environment of competing priorities and managing multiple tasks within strict deadlines.
