Aurelia Metals Limited (ASX: AMI) (‘Aurelia’) is an Australian gold and base metals mining and exploration company. We own and operate two underground mines and processing facilities in New South Wales (NSW) and have an enviable portfolio of organic growth prospects in the region.
Our Peak Mine comprises several underground polymetallic (gold, lead, zinc, copper, and silver) and an 800 thousand tonnes per annum (ktpa) processing plant. The Mine is located in the northern Cobar Basin in western NSW, a short distance from the historical town of Cobar.

The Role
Joining Aurelia Metals Limited as the Senior Legal Counsel on a 12-month maternity leave contract, you'll be an integral part of a compact, dynamic team where variety isn't just expected—it's embraced. Reporting directly to the General Counsel & Company Secretary, this position offers a unique opportunity to manage and provide legal advice across a broad spectrum of issues impacting the company.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on a diverse range of matters related to the company's operations, including but not limited to M&A, joint ventures, financing, regulatory compliance, project development, employment, and industrial relations.
- Draft and negotiate contracts for a variety of commercial activities and procurement, ensuring both legal compliance and the company's best interests are served.
- Lead and manage dispute resolution processes, employing strategies that minimize risk and promote positive outcomes for the company.
- Assist in obtaining government and regulatory approvals as needed, offering expert advice on environmental and mining regulations.
- Oversee external Legal Counsel to ensure the company receives specialized, cost-effective legal services when required.
- Provide support to the Company Secretary if desired, including assistance with Board papers, procedures, and the documentation of meetings.
About You
- Holds a Bachelor's degree in Law and is admitted as a legal practitioner in Australia, with eligibility for a Queensland practising certificate.
- Brings over 5 years of post-admission experience, with a preference for candidates who have provided legal services to the mining/resources industry.
- Has a background in commercial/corporate law within a sizable law firm or similar in-house role, demonstrating the ability to handle complex legal matters with discretion and integrity.
- Demonstrates exceptional negotiation and drafting skills, with a keen analytical mind and the ability to solve problems creatively and effectively.
- Exhibits outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting effectively with all organisational levels and external partners.
- Is experienced in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive information, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
