This role sits within the CBA Retail Banking Services (RBS) Strategy function, which is accountable for defining the strategic roadmap, creating partnerships to broaden the bank's ecosystem, and driving sustainability for the Retail Bank.
The strategy team oversees the ongoing development of the RBS' strategy by advising and facilitating RBS leadership team discussions, preparing materials for the CBA Executive Leadership Team and the Board, and by collaborating on projects with leaders across the Retail Bank and the Group.
The team is responsible for driving the Environmental & Social (E&S) strategy within RBS. As the largest retail bank in the country, we have a responsibility to meet the current needs of our customers and the community while operating sustainably for future generations. This role will be specifically focused on our Home and Transport Decarbonisation strategy, working on innovative solutions to support customer transition to decarbonised and low-to-no emissions homes and transport in line with our Net-Zero Banking Alliance commitment. This role will work actively on how to support and incentivise customers with key decisions on residential solar and battery uptake, electrification of their homes, increase in thermal efficiency, and transition to electric vehicles.
Do work that matters:
The Senior Manager role will report directly to the Executive Manager for RBS Environment and Social Strategy. The successful candidate will be accountable for the E&S Decarbonisation Strategy for RBS; informing and driving new initiatives that reduce customer emissions, supports customer engagement, and works with a range of stakeholders internally and externally, bringing all RBS decarbonisation/emissions reductions initiatives together into a clearly communicated strategy. Exceptional strategic and stakeholder management skills are required for the ideal candidate.
The role will track performance, communicating progress to senior leaders, and resolve or escalate blockers/challenges. The role also includes driving decarbonisation/emissions reduction initiatives within RBS (e.g. developing products, customer engagement, digital capabilities, partnerships and enhancing internal capabilities). The role will have one to two direct reports supporting Decarbonisation strategy.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning and driving the decarbonisation/emissions reduction strategy for retail banking customers to FY30, ensuring initiatives remain on track and in line with public commitments.
- Tracking/monitoring and reporting on customer emissions reductions, and ensuring activities are in place to meet commitments.
- Developing the forward-looking plan/strategy to inform the roadmap of decarbonisation initiatives for the retail bank.
- Taking ownership of work streams/ projects end to end, and independently managing deliverables.
- Working closely with other strategy, business development, product, and delivery teams across Group and RBS to ensure there is alignment to the E&S strategy & policies, keeping abreast of their strategic agenda and interdependencies.
- Identifying roadblocks or dependencies, which could impact specific work stream / projects and resolve/ escalate to your manager as required.
- Engaging with third party organisations and industry bodies on E&S decarbonisation strategy
- Analysing information and presenting it clearly and concisely for stakeholders to understand and make informed decisions.
- Contributing to formal papers for both the CBA Board and Retail Leadership Team, including regular E&S strategy progress reporting.
- Customer Strategy experience, consulting experience, or experience in Retail Banking/Financial Services firm, with a strong skillset in product/innovation strategy. Business to customer strategic experience is essential.
