The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians.   • $181,793 - $260,587 plus employer superannuation.

About the role: 

  • Provide high level authoritative public health medical/clinical, technical and strategic advice.
  • Deputise for the Deputy Chief Health Officer, Prevention and Population Health.
  • Lead and oversee critical stakeholder engagement.

How you'll make a difference:

The Senior Medical Adviser, Prevention and Population Health is a senior clinical leadership role providing authoritative advice and leadership in supporting the Deputy Chief Health Officer, Prevention and Population Health, the Chief Health Officer, Deputy Secretary, Secretary, and respective departmental teams.

With a Population Health focus, the Senior Medical Adviser aims to improve population health throughout life. Their goal includes supporting the development of state-wide health promotion and prevention policies and overseeing public health and chronic disease system planning, outcomes frameworks, and data analytics, in partnership with stakeholders like VicHealth.

The Senior Medical Adviser, Prevention and Population Health provides public health medicine advice to inform strategic policy development, health reforms, the management of population health programs, and holds public health powers as a senior officer. The role can act in place of senior leaders within the Office of the Chief Health Officer for periods of leave or other backfill and may be on standby or a shift-based seven (7) day schedule.
