NSW Health Pathology are seeking an enthusiastic hard working Senior Medical Laboratory ScientistIn Chargeof Morphology located within the Prince of Wales Hospital, in a permanent full time capacity.
NSWHP Randwick is located within the Prince of Wales hospital with public transport available direct to the hospital by bus or light rail from Central Station and is close proximity to many cafes/ restaurants and UNSW which has gym, library and a swimming pool.

What you'll be doing
Responsible for the training and competency of scientific and technical staff, all testing and associated activities and logistics for the Morphology section within Haematology department. The position overseas the quality and operational integrity of the section, regulatory compliance and accreditation of laboratory services.

1. Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to Haematology from a recognised tertiary institution
2. Extensive high level knowledge of Morphology including adult, paediatric, body fluid and other film reviews; General knowledge of automated haematology.
3. Advanced knowledge of pathology computer systems including Laboratory Information Systems, Middleware and Procurement systems
4. Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills with good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with clinical and laboratory staff, along with statistical evaluation of data and report writing skills
5. Demonstrated experience in senior scientist duties, motivating a team, implementing work improvements, training and assessing staff competency in methods, procedures and equipment
6. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems
7. Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy requirements

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases
This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand NSW Health Policy Directive PD2023_022 Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases. All recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. All recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.
All NSW Health workers are required to have two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, as defined by NSW Health. Employees working in a clinical area or are required to attend clinical areas are considered category A. Category A positions are required to provide evidence of having received three doses of COVID-19 vaccine in accordance with the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (TGA) and meet the requirements of the Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy Directive. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status if successful.
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
