About the Department for Correctional Services
The Department employs approximately 2,000 staff and has responsibility for nine prisons and sixteen Community Correctional offices across the state. Duties
The Senior Occupational Therapist, Treatment Units as part of a multidisciplinary team is accountable for the provision of occupational therapy services and participates in departmental education, quality improvement and planning activities. These lead to improved clinical outcomes for offenders in the Treatment Units at Yatala Labour Prison. The Senior Occupational Therapist provides key support, assessment, intervention and discharge planning for prisoners requiring clinical intervention in the HDU. They are also responsible for the provision of a group therapy program, and perform duties and assessments to inform clinical risk as part of the High Risk Assessment Team.
The Senior Occupational Therapist demonstrates a specialising level of professional knowledge and skill and is responsible for the daily management, coordination and supervision of occupational therapy services to ensure efficient and effective clinical service provision in line with current best practice. The Senior Occupational Therapist informs and advocates on a wide range of issues as they pertain to their particular client group. They undertake report writing, briefings, research and provide key advice on complex prisoner management, disability, and mental health related matters. The incumbent will work as part of a multi disciplinary team and will participate and formulate complex clinical assessments, reports and management plans. The Senior Occupational Therapist will demonstrate a strong knowledge of evidenced based disability and mental health clinical and psychosocial interventions. Employees classified at this level are experts in their area and stream of practice and have a degree of autonomy and decision making.
The Senior OT plays a leadership role in the Treatment Units ,collaborates with other MDT, DCS staff and SA Prison Health Service, to actively promote and contribute to research and evaluation to inform improvements in clinical practice.
Special Conditions
- Section 47 of the Public Sector Act 2009 applies in conjunction with other provisions of the act and other applicable industrial entitlements.
- The incumbent is required to satisfactorily complete a National Criminal History Check.
- A current South Australian Driver’s Licence is essential.
- A flexible approach to working hours is required.
- Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required which may necessitate overnight absences.
Requirements
Essential: Appropriate degree or equivalent which entitles registration as an Occupational Therapist by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (OTBA).

AHP3 ($102,641 - $110,094pa)
