Job description

  • Permanent part time (0.6 FTE), with potential for full time hours.
  • Exciting opportunity to work for Guide Dogs SA/NT in Darwin whilst also servicing remote locations.
  • Location Allowance + 5 weeks annual leave + vehicle for work purposes

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our multi-disciplinary Allied Health Team on a permanent part-time (0.6 FTE) basis, with potential for full-time hours. In addition, there is also opportunity for relocation support and 2-year fixed term contract for the right candidate.

The Senior Occupational Therapist is a specialist resource for Guide Dogs SA/NT working specifically within the Adult, Neurological and Children’s Services areas across the Northern Territory.

About the role

Based in Darwin, you will be connected to a highly supportive and multi-disciplinary team. The Senior Occupational Therapist will develop and provide direct vision-related services to our clients and the community, including assessing, planning, implementing and reviewing programs for clients in hospital, home, community and rural settings.

In addition, this role will deliver education opportunities for a range of stakeholders, represent the organisation professionally to support business development opportunities and provide supervision for students and less experienced Occupational Therapists.

About you

Applicants must have a tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy and Occupational Therapy registration. A willingness to work with clients across all age groups and backgrounds is essential.

Key skills and experience include:

  • 2+ years’ experience in general occupational therapy practice
  • Experience in assessing vision, prescribing vision related assistive technology and therapies, is desirable but not essential
  • Understanding of the impact of vision loss on individuals, families and carers
  • Ability to design, implement, monitor and evaluate consumer focused rehabilitation programs by applying thorough and professional knowledge, application in a vision setting is desirable but not essential
  • Proficient in the use of a broad range of technology and a desire to upskill
  • Knowledge of relevant disability legislation
  • Understanding of relevant funding sources i.e NDIS and My Aged Care
  • Ability to prioritise work independently and effectively manage time and client case loads
  • Understanding of, and connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities (desirable)

Providing and maintaining a current Driver’s License and relevant clearances will be required.

Following Government Directions in relation to flu vaccinations when working in Aged Care settings, proof of vaccination will be required, when directed.
