Guided by our Values, your responsibilities will include:
- Leadership and Development: Manage and inspire a team of direct reports, including the Taxation and Treasury, Corporate Financial Reporting, and Capital and Asset Accounting teams. Focus on staff development, and succession planning to create an attractive, rewarding workplace.
- Financial Management: Oversee financial accounting services, including management reporting, financial reporting, and financial reconciliations, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and local government legislation.
- Asset Accounting: Lead capital and asset accounting activities, including work in progress, depreciation, impairment, and valuation services. Develop and continuously review the corporate Long-Term Asset Management Plan.
- Corporate Taxation and Treasury: Manage the delivery of corporate taxation advice, compliance, and the lodgement of Federal and State tax returns. Oversee treasury functions to balance debt and investment portfolios, supporting cash flow forecasting for Council's working capital decisions.
- Customer Satisfaction: Foster effective professional relationships to deliver tailored financial information and support that enhance Council and community outcomes.
- Team Participation: Collaborate with the Financial Services management team to support the Chief Financial Officer and drive continuous improvement in financial services.
What you will bring to the role?
- Expertise: A strong financial accounting background with demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, methodologies, and systems. Applicants from public practice, audit or similar private practice experience and highly encouraged to apply.
- Leadership Skills: Proven track record in leading and developing staff in a team environment, with a focus on service excellence, cost efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Customer Focus: A consistent history of delivering high-quality, customer-focused financial services with experience in statutory reporting, asset accounting, and annual accounts reconciliation.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels and maintain positive relationships.
- Technical Proficiency: Well-developed computer literacy with experience in financial management systems and contemporary financial practices.
Eligibility:
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Business or equivalent
- Professional membership with CAANZ, CPA Australia or equivalent professional body
