  • Fantastic casual opportunity for a casual Student Liaison Officer with our Safer Communities Officer
  • commencing as soon as possible, this position will be on-site at our Camperdown campus on Thursday & Fridays until the end of August 2024
  • HEO 7 Step 1 $71.61 per hour

About the opportunity

As a Student Liaison Officer working within the Safer Communities Office a significant focus of your work will be to provide trauma informed case management and support to students who have experienced sexual assault, sexual harassment and/or domestic/family violence. Other types of support needs may include mental health, psychological, personal and wellbeing difficulties.

You will use a wide range of approaches and interventions including intake assessment, case management, advice and information, health promotion and campus wide behavioural education programs. You will also work collaboratively with other teams within the Student life portfolio to achieve positive student outcomes.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • report to the Team Leader, Safer Communities working as a member of a high performing team
  • triage provision of student wellbeing guidance and assessment via phone, video conferencing, email and in person
  • provide trauma informed case management to students to address complex issues such as accommodation, reporting to NSW police and internal university complaints processes and academic support
  • liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure a positive student experience
  • assist in the development and delivery of wellbeing events, campaigns, and campus safety training
  • work with administrative teams and academic staff in ensuring students are aware where they can go for personal guidance and support
  • assess students' needs in line with current legislation, stepped care and the promotion of student wellbeing and success
  • contribute to the development and implementation of service policy and procedures.

You will have:

  • a tertiary qualification in an applicable field such as counselling, psychology or social work
  • proven experience in the provision of guidance to University students/staff who have experienced a range of different situations, such as sexual assault, domestic/family violence, mental health, financial stress, and homelessness
  • knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory obligations affecting students with mental health issues
  • strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to take initiative and exercise sound judgement
  • experience working within the University sector, with a student services focus is highly desirable
  • experience in facilitating training and workshops to young people is highly desirable
  • Strong relationship management skills to be able to support a diversified stakeholder base
  • a current Working with Children Check.
