Portside Christian College is a non-denominational Christian college based in the Western suburbs of Adelaide that caters for students from Foundation to Year 12, with an Early Learning Centre and Trade Training Centre.

Our purpose is to equip students for life. We are a ministry of Portlife Church and operate to provide education for Christian families. We believe our task is to enable each child to develop uniquely and progress academically, socially, physically, emotionally and spiritually through authentic Christian education. All teachers are committed Christians who aim to model Christian values and educate students from a biblical worldview perspective. Position Description
Position title:  Student Wellbeing Officer
Position number:  WSO02
Agreement: Portside Christian College Enterprise Agreement (2021)
Award: Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award 2020
Level: General Level 4
FTE: 0.67 FTE [4 days per week during school terms]
Reports to: Student Wellbeing Coordinator
Direct reports: Nil
General responsibilities:
·         Have an understanding of and commitment to the College Vision, Purpose, Values and Statement of Faith

·         Act in accordance with the College Handbook (Staff), Staff Code of Conduct and Staff Device Agreement, as well as all other College policies and procedures

·         Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with staff, students and parents

·         Actively contribute to the Christian life of the College community

·         Attend meetings, functions and extra-curricular activities as required

·         Participate in the College’s ongoing Professional Learning opportunities

Role and responsibilities:

Model and Promote Excellence:

·         Demonstrate College Values

·         Promote restorative practices and student resilience with strategies that foster self-regulation, self-awareness and problem solving

·         Network and liaise with practitioners and service agencies as appropriate

·         Sound understanding of the referral process for appropriate agencies

·         Refer students to the College Inclusion support team to facilitate multidisciplinary support to meet the needs of the students in a holistic environment

·         Provide support to the student regulation room, teaching students the skills of self-regulation

·         Understand the legal and ethical underpinnings of child safe practices

Daily Organisation, Operations and Resources:

·         Implement and monitor support plans for students with mental health needs

·         Complete reporting and notification requirements in line with College policies and procedures

·         Adhere to the College policies and procedures

·         Attend meetings, functions and extra-curricular activities

·         Participate in the College’s ongoing professional learning opportunities

·         Engage professional improvement and development including being observed, receiving feedback and being coached

·         Work within Work, Health and Safety aspects of Portside Christian College

·         Sustainably source, manage and organise appropriate resources at all times

Pastoral Care:

·         Implement positive culture through understanding and participating in restorative approaches and KARR framework

·         Create an atmosphere of nurtured respect, kindness and learning

·         Liaise with parents and staff regarding students’ wellbeing needs

·         Liaise with College Leadership and Teams to promote positive outcomes, student resilience and wellbeing services

·         Encourage positive student relationships within the classroom, among peers and at home

·         Participate in College activities to develop rapport and connection with students and the wider College community

·         Provide pastoral support, mentoring and appropriate service referrals to students

Desired qualifications of successful candidate:

·         Level 4 duties typically require a skill level which assumes and requires knowledge or training equivalent to:

(i)                  Completion of a diploma level qualification with relevant work related experience;

(ii)                 Completion of a Certificate IV with relevant work experience;

(iii)               Completion of a post-trades certificate and extensive relevant experience and on-the-job training;

(iv)               Completion of a Certificate III with extensive relevant work experience; or

(v)                 An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training

·         A personal commitment to the vision, purpose and values of Portside Christian College and Statement of Faith

·         Active involvement in a Christian Fellowship

·         South Australian Government Working with Children Check

·         Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care (RRHAN-EC) Training

Desired skills and abilities of successful candidate:

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·         Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with students, staff and parents

·         Effective facilitation skills, ensuring participants meet learning objectives

·         Effective time management skills with proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload

·         Ability to work effectively as part of the Student Wellbeing Team

·         Punctual and flexible with a high level of time management

·         Ability to maintain confidentiality

·         Ability to show initiative, be proactive and positive

·         Ability to manage the demands of the position including administration and professional responsibilities

·         Ability to actively contribute to the Christian life of the College community

·         Proficient in digital technologies
