About the Role


BHP is currently on the look-out for talented and capable Security & Emergency Management Superintendent to join the HSE team at WAIO. This is a permanent FIFO role leading the Pilbara SEM teams at Yandi, Mining Area C & South Flank. As a Security & Emergency Management Superintendent with BHP, you will be working in a dynamic and demanding environment, which will come with its own unique challenges.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide functional leadership, coaching, and advice (business partnering) to the operational areas. You will lead and manage a diverse and inclusive team responsible for the safe & successful execution of the Regional WAIO Site SEM services. This role maintains strong working relationships across Operations, and HSS function leadership teams as well as external stakeholders involved in local law enforcement (WAPOL) and Emergency Management organisations (DFES). 

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and expert advice to the operations team, their direct reports and key stakeholders on all SEM matters. 
  • Leading own team culture whilst embodying the BHP Charter and Code of Conduct across WAIO.
  • Building Leadership Capability within their own team.
  • Responds to and improves the effectiveness of SEM response services to uplift organisational capability in managing emergencies/incidents.  
  • Manages, improves and provides expertise on SEM management practices to improve operational outcomes and performance.  
  • Govern and maintain, where relevant, SEM standards (including relevant statutory obligations).
  • Identifies and assesses risks, makes risk informed decisions, uses BHP's risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.  
  • Identifies, engages and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders to deliver HSS excellence. 
  • Prioritises work, effort and resources accordingly.  
  • Strives to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste.  
  • Managing, monitoring and controlling costs associated with SEM with their remit and report on expenditure and variations to the H&S Manager whilst identifying cost saving opportunities.
  • Review and monitor delivery partners (contractor) H&S performance and delivery to the HSS Management Plan.

About You

This role will suit a highly capable leader who is motivated to collaborate with sites and HSS teams to ensure that everyone goes home safe every day to do the things they love.

  • Working knowledge of SEM regulatory & best practice standards, policies and procedures and their implementation in the mining and resources sector.

  • Demonstrated ability to reliably deliver team results and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to identify and lead complex change through vision setting and the effective execution of change management processes.

You will have

  • Tertiary qualification in a related field (e.g. Safety, Risk Management).

  • Demonstrated experience in Security, Risk intelligence and Emergency Services.

  • Experienced people leadership exposure within mining/heavy or transferable industry.

  • Have strong leadership, communication and engagement skills, ability to adapt to suit target audience.
