About the team:

The Infrastructure and Place division is in the process of delivering a once-in-a generation multi-billion dollar program of public infrastructure works which will ease congestion, improve safety, create new places and connect communities for generations to come. We are dedicated and passionate team that is proud of the work we do and the supportive and flexible team culture we have built.

The Technical Services Branch provides specialised engineering services for the multi-modal delivery, operations and management of our Transport network, and is the centre of technical expertise driving innovation and best practice.

The opportunity:

Due to the unprecedented scale of investment in the Transport for NSW Future Transport strategy we have a permanent full-time opportunity for a Survey Manager - Western Region to be part the Technical Service's Parkes team.

The role sits within Digital Engineering Services and is responsible for the development and deployment of surveying capability in the Region providing infrastructure projects with survey services and technical advice in the investigation, development and/or construction stages. The role aims to minimise current and future environmental and WHS risk associated with surveying activities and leads a team delivering surveying services including equipment resource requirements, staff training and State-wide resource allocation and deployment.

The role is based in the Parkes Regional Office and will service the wider region (Your base location is flexible in the Western area) . There may be varying hours, site locations. Staff will have access to TfNSW pool vehicle for work use.

What you will be involved in:
  • Ensure the development, maintenance and retention of TfNSW capabilities by organising staff Performance Development & Review plans and identifying training & recruitment needs for surveying personnel in the Region.
  • Assist in compliance with TfNSW, regulatory and statutory requirements and improve work efficiencies by verifying the application of standards & procedures and participating in quality improvement processes.
  • Manage, deliver and maintain survey capabilities in the Region by engaging both internal and external resources to achieve TfNSW objectives and maintaining a panel of surveying service providers
  • Contribute to TfNSW being an informed purchaser and provider of surveying services and products by reviewing the output of internal and external resources. Role Description Survey Manager West
  • Contribute to TfNSW's reputation as a technical leader in surveying services by identifying surveying system improvements both internally and with suppliers and the adoption of TfNSW standards and procedures for best practice.
  • Contribute to sound decision making for project development and progression by advising project managers on the control, collection, interpretation, presentation and application of spatial information.
  • Role model, promote and actively demonstrate the five ways of leading behaviours to deliver organisational outcomes for our customers, our people and communities for the Greater Good.
About you:

You will be a self-starter, an autonomous operator, who proactively takes the initiative to establish effective relationships and solve problems. You will possess strong communication skills and attention to detail, and be able to manage multiple cross-functional priorities with conflicting deadlines. Proficient multitasking, organisational, teamwork and planning skills are key.

Key Knowledge and Experience:
  • Demonstrated management capabilities, including the ability to lead, influence, promote and motivate?highly skilled technical?staff to deliver?desired outcomes.
  • Extensive experience in surveying and associated technologies, the provision of surveying technical advice, the application of relevant legislation related to surveying practices and procedures and the management of technical risk in TfNSW projects.
Essential Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Surveying qualification or equivalent, and extensive experience in providing surveying technical services across diverse infrastructure projects.
  • Possess a current and valid Australian motor vehicle driver license and have the ability to be flexible with work arrangements which may include overtime, night work, weekend work, and overnight stays.

Salary and Benefits

USS Grade 11 ($148,877-$ 158,854) per annum plus overtime/penalties, superannuation and leave loading.
