Are you a passionate, dedicated, and collaborative Upper Primary Teacher looking for a rewarding opportunity?

Calista Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated Teacher - Upper - Years 5-6 to join their skilled team. The successful applicant will ideally possess a strong work ethic, be committed, have a deep knowledge of curriculum and highly effective pedagogical practices.

About the role:

The successful applicant will ideally exhibit an exceptionally high level of collaborative practice and possess the skills to enable effective engagement of students. We are a Positive Behaviour School (PBS) and have significantly altered the behaviour and culture of our school in recent years. A sound understanding of this type of student management would be highly desirable. When joining our committed staff, you will be proactive in participating in whole school and year level planning which is informed by data interrogation and teacher judgement. We currently use the Elastik Platform to assist staff in this process. We have skilled curriculum leaders who assist in the provision of curriculum across the school and utilise Sounds Write, Sound Waves, Seven Steps to Writing Success, Heggerty and are currently in the process of introducing Top Ten Maths to our school.  Experience with these programs would be highly desirable.

Calista PS is a highly effective, friendly and welcoming Level 5 school located in the centre of the City of Kwinana. We are located close to several modern facilities and co-located with the Calista Child and Parent Centre (CPC). We have a range of staff, from those who have been here many years, to those commencing their careers. This mix of experience and enthusiasm provides for excellent learning opportunities for our students. Staff are collaborative, motivated and skilled educators who are committed to explicit teaching in the areas of literacy and numeracy and are keen to see students improve and learn. Our students are enthusiastic to learn and exhibit positive behaviour. The school is welcoming and has strong support from our parents and the local community. The school commenced in 1964 and was granted IPS status in 2011.

Calista PS has achieved outstanding outcomes and was both a Centre of Excellence School and a Teacher Development School Literacy and Numeracy. We are on a journey to develop Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the Primary years and have the support and resources to achieve this. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
