About the Team & the Position
AEMO’s System Design division is responsible for planning the power system in the context of unprecedented transformation. The rapid transition to renewable energy generation and electrification of many sectors (transport, industry etc) has seen sharp rises in proposed transmission connection projects.
The Onboarding and Connections Group manages AEMO’s end to end process for connecting and registering generators into the National Electricity Market.
Position Responsibilities
- Cultivate a consistent, structured, and transparent project and portfolio management framework to be used across all projects to ensure that quality, cost, risk, and time requirements are met.
- Provide leadership to the Project Management function within Onboarding and Connections, including coaching to more junior employees.
- Take ownership of the Project Management Framework and in effectively implementing it across all the regions to ensure a consistent project management approach across the NEM.
- Deploy active problem solving, an agile approach and flexible mindset to be able to respond to unique project and stakeholder issues that require speedy resolution.
- Take ownership in increasing transparency with both internal and stakeholders on project status, scope, timeline, and cost.
- Responsible for management reporting on project portfolio, ensure consistency in reporting across regional teams.
- Proactively build AEMO’s reputation as a trusted partner to generation developers, original equipment manufacturers, Government, Network Service Providers, Market Participants, Customers and other stakeholders.
Position Requirements
Skills & Experience:
Expert understanding of the National Electricity Law and National Electricity Rules, specifically relating to Connections and Registration
- Expert understanding about AEMO’s role and operational model
- Demonstrated ability to prepare high quality reports suitable for other regulatory experts, senior management, or external stakeholders.
- Understanding of the challenges experiences by generation developers and their commercial drivers or constraints
- Well-developed experience in managing generator connection processes, with strong experience working with multiple stakeholders in effectively delivering projects.
- Experience in negotiating complex project issues with multiple stakeholders and in managing escalation to effectively deliver projects.
- Understanding of the key commercial and legal issues impacting large scale infrastructure projects, and the commercial drivers of generation developers
- Ability to communicate technical/engineering concepts to the non-technical audience in a clear and easy to understand language.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and stakeholder expectations under stringent project environments.
Education/ professional Certifications:
- Engineering, project management, regulatory or stakeholder management qualifications
