Team Leader, Student Counselling Services (Student Experience)

Based on our Sydney or Fremantle Campus

Full-time, Continuing role

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role sits within the Pro Vice Chancellor, Student Experience portfolio which includes Student Success, Indigenous Student Support and Success, Chaplaincy, Libraries, Student Life and Wellbeing.

Student Wellbeing delivers a tailored and holistic suite of supports to students to help them stay engaged in study and thrive during their university years. The Office includes Access and Inclusion, Student Counselling, Respect@ND, Grievances and the Student hardship Assistance Fund.

The Team Leader, Student Counselling Service works with the counselling team to provide a contemporary counselling service that responds to students changing needs. The position reports to the National Manager, Student Wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the University’s counselling service, ensuring services are confidential, ethical, and where appropriate referring students to an appropriate external agency to support long-term counselling objectives.
  • Provide national coordination of the counselling team, including staff management and development, to ensure services are provided ethically and in accordance with scope of practice, policies, and university objects.
  • Respond to critical incidents and provide emergency Counselling Services on a diverse range of issues and mental health disorders and act in accordance with university policy and procedures.
  • Provide strategic input into the development and delivery of student engagement activities across all schools and campuses of the university to promote the counselling service as part of the broader student wellbeing suite of service and the facilitation of proactive wellbeing activities to staff and students.
  • Coordinate the development and review of policies and procedures to meet best practice and ensure the effective use of the University’s resources relevant to Student Counselling programs.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Student Wellbeing leadership team to provide a tailored and holistic suite of services that supports students’ continued engagement in study.
     

ABOUT YOU

  • Supportive of the Objects of Notre Dame as a Catholic University.
  • Possession of a Postgraduate degree qualification in psychology or counselling with relevant work experience.
  • Hold registration with a relevant professional body AHPRA and/or Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and/or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
  • Demonstrated experience in similar role that provided supervision and direction to a team and required oversight of performance and services within scope of practice.
  • Ability to understand, respond and provide a range of Counselling Services tailored to student needs that is evidence-based.
    Ability to deliver workshops, training and facilitating groups such as Client-Centred and Short-term Solution Focused Counselling, CBT, ACT and Mindfulness at both the individual and group level.
  • Deliver services on a broad range of issues, demonstrating confidentiality, ethical and professional evidence-based support.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver defensible hearing outcomes and findings, papers, reports and proposals for all levels of the University.
  • Highly developed relational skills including the ability to gain confidence, influence and engage with a wide range of internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary issues in the higher education sector.
  • Hold exceptional time management and organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
