Operating from our Cavan SA site is Glen Dimplex Australia’s NATA accredited laboratory - specialising in testing domestic solid fuel (wood) heaters for emissions, efficiency and safety installation clearances as well as new product development, research and development. We are seeking applicants for the role of Laboratory Manager. This is a permanent full-time position.
About the position
The position is a great opportunity for someone wanting to work in a flexible environment with many varied activities and responsibilities. The position will be based at our facility in Cavan SA and report to the Site Operations Manager. Hours of work may be outside business hours on occasion depending on project requirements.
Responsibilities
Responsible for organising the day-to-day operations of a NATA accredited facility, overall technical responsibility including testing of solid fuel burning appliances for approval to Australian Standards, and responsibility as NATA authorised representative. In order to fulfil the requirements of this role, the successful applicant will be trained and signed off as a NATA Authorised Representative.
Managerial Duties
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with AS ISO/IEC 17025
- Signing of reports as a NATA Authorised Representative
- Overall management and authority of the testing facility
- Liaising with customers, understanding their requirements
- Provide technical training to other staff where necessary
- Authorise personnel to perform certain activities
- Responsible for annual laboratory audits
Technical Duties
- Calibration of test equipment and maintenance of register
- Test fuel procurement and preparation
- Preparation of equipment ready for testing
- Execute test procedures according to AS/NZS 2918 and AS/NZS 4012 and 4013
- Ensure accuracy and conformity of technical data and results
- Implement relevant corrective action when necessary
- Produce and maintain reports based on test results
- Test equipment maintenance and repairs
About you
To be considered for this role, you will satisfy the following:
- Degree in a relevant Science discipline or equivalent
- 2+ years professional experience in a laboratory environment – with management and maintenance of a laboratory being favourable
- Ability to supervise and manage small teams
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with others
- Experience with Visual Basic
- Willingness to become an expert in the testing requirements of AS/NZS 2918 and AS/NZS 4012 and 4013
- Ability to manage a facility in compliance of AS ISO/IEC 17025
Advantageously you will also have:
- Solid fuel combustion experience
- Previous experience in testing to AS/NZS 2918 and AS/NZS 4012 and 4013
- Previous experience in a NATA accredited lab
