About the opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to work at both a strategic and operational level. We are seeking an experienced Transport Manager to effectively lead and manage the day-to-day operations of drivers and a fleet of vehicles along with development and implementation of department strategies that support overall business objectives. 

Reporting to the General Manager - Operations, you will have an integral role in driving our transport operations forward.

You will have a range of key responsibilities including:

  • Lead and manage a team driving high performance and a safety-first culture ensuring adherence to company policies and performance standards. Provide guidance, training, and support to optimise individual performance and efficiency.
  • Develop and implement strategies for transport operations including scheduling and planning of loads across Victoria to achieve cost effective productivity, high performance vehicle utilisation, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulatory and legislated requirements with a focus on accurate, safe and compliant delivery.
  • Act as subject matter expert for the department in terms of fatigue management, safe working, NHVR Compliance, safe loading, vehicle weight restrictions etc.
  • Ensure the team are kept updated and trained on changes in regulations and company procedures.
  • Establish key performance indicators to measure driver performance, fleet utilisation and overall transport efficiency. Analyse data to identify trends, address challenges and implement strategies to enhance operational effectiveness and cost efficiency.
  • Address operational challenges promptly, resolving conflicts and mitigating issues that may arise within the transport process.
  • Develop budgets, transport department plans, policies and procedures and project plans to support progression of the department.

About you

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to build solid working relations with a range of stakeholders and gain cooperation from team members.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the legislation and regulations relating to the operation of heavy vehicles, transportation, fatigue management, Chain of Responsibility, and vehicle weight restrictions.
  • Proven ability to improve efficiencies and processes.
  • Good analytical, reporting, planning skills for efficient route and load planning with high attention to detail and cost management.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Sound problem solving skills with the ability to use initiative to continually improve quality and efficiency.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills with the ability to create reports, presentations, and business proposals.
