Job description

RSL Queensland is a dynamic, not-for-profit organisation delivering innovative programs and initiatives that support veterans and their families.  After more than a century, our purpose – to provide care, commemoration and camaraderie – is as strong as ever.

Whether veterans or their families need employment, emergency financial aid, online health and wellbeing resources and social connection activities, our award-winning services and partner programs deliver real, lasting outcomes.

With Australia’s most successful prize home lottery backing us, we’re able to provide life-changing support services, fund world-first research, and use state-of-the-art tech to help more veterans in better ways. As a member of our team, you’ll have access to advanced technology, skilled co-workers, interesting projects, and the opportunity to expand your career.

And most importantly, you’ll be making a real difference in veterans’ and their families’ lives.

Why work at RSL Queensland. Open, flexible, supportive, empowering - they’re some of things our team love most about RSL Queensland.  Depending on your role, you’ll have the tools and flexibility to work in a hybrid way that balances your lifestyle and the requirements of the team.

What else makes us great:

  • Option to salary package up to $15,900 per year on living expenses, and claim further tax-saving benefits on top
  • Extensive training/development opportunities
  • Bring your whole authentic self to work each day and be part of a supportive environment
  • You’re gifted 3 additional days of leave at Christmas!
  • Financial support and study leave to undertake higher educational courses related to work
  • Work in an environment that values all voices – have an influence, be the difference!
  • Benefits Hub that includes lifestyle discounts from hundreds of leading stores and services
About the role:

The Wellbeing team is part of RSL Queensland’s growing suite of Veteran Services. By responding to and working with our ex-service community, you will be empowering veterans to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes. Our multi-disciplined Wellbeing team also plays an active role in supporting its local community by promoting our services and building important relationships with other community members.

As a RSL Queensland Wellbeing Advocate, you will be responsible for:

  • Working with veterans and their families within our homelessness and financial hardship programs.
  • Assessing clients and preparing case management plans that support an outcomes-based approach to Veteran Wellbeing.
  • Preparing documentation that seeks support from: the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, other ex-service organisations; and rehabilitation providers.
  • Collaborating with external health practitioners and allied health professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to holistic veteran-centred care.
  • Conducting home and hospital visits to veterans to ensure they receive emotional support, counselling or other assistance are required.
This role is a permanent, full-time position based in our Townsville office.

About you:

As a Wellbeing Advocate with RSL Queensland, no workday is ever the same. If you are interested in a challenging role in an emerging field of health and human services delivery, then we would love to hear from you!

To succeed in this role, you will:

  • Have relevant tertiary qualification(s)/training (Degree or above in Community Services, Social Work, Human or Health Sciences) and a minimum of three years previous experience working with vulnerable people.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in planning and managing client workloads across highly sensitive environments and situations.

  • Enjoy building and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Possess a Queensland “C” class driver’s license for work-related travel responsibilities.
  • Understand the Australian Defence Force and veteran communities and their unique characteristics and sensitivities (desirable).
Embracing collaboration and innovation, we work as one to lead the change veterans need. We’re not afraid to go the extra mile or seek better ways of doing things. We look out for each other; we value all voices and respect perspectives that may differ from our own; and everything we do, we do with heart.
