The Victim Liaison Officer provides essential administrative support to Legal Officers and Crown Prosecutors in the areas of victim information, referral and support.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) represents the State of Queensland in criminal cases. The ODPP's significant responsibility is to prosecute criminal matters in the High Court of Australia, Court of Appeal (Qld), Supreme Court, Mental Health Court, District Court, the Childrens Court of Queensland and the Magistrates Court (in limited locations and matters).
About the role
A temporary AO3 Victim Liaison Officer role is available in Cairns Chambers on a temporary full-time basis from the date of commencement for a period of 6 months.
As a Victim Liaison Officer, the incumbent will undertake a combination of the following:
- Maintain records of correspondence, court applications, and the results of court action.
- Conduct routine correspondence with victims, police officers, other legal practitioners, and court staff.
- Maintain a thorough and reliable bring-up system for matters.
- Liaise by telephone and in person with the Queensland Police Service, other legal practitioners, court officers, officers of other Government bodies, victims and their families.
- Applicants are advised that the work of the ODPP exposes employees to sensitive material and material containing offending behaviours and criminal activity.
- The Director of Public Prosecutions Act 1984 requires persons seeking employment with the ODPP to disclose their criminal history (including convictions not yet recorded). Criminal history checks will be undertaken by the ODPP on recommended applicant(s).
