About the position:
The Waste Facility Operator is responsible for performing operational tasks at the waste management facility, with a focus on customer control, plant and equipment operation, and site maintenance.
- This is a permanent full-time position based at the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility (O'Mara Road, Wellcamp).
- The base wage for this position is $1,129.62 gross per week, plus 17.5% annual leave loading and up to 12.65% superannuation.
- In addition to the base wage rate, variable allowances are available (for example - on call, overtime, asbestos allowance, wet weather).
- This position works any five in seven days on a rotating roster.

About the Waste Services team:
Toowoomba Regional Council’s Waste Services Branch manages, operates, and controls the region’s Waste Management Facilities and recycling. The branch coordinates waste collection services while providing communication and education of waste services to the community.
The team is composed of indoor and outdoor staff that collaboratively offers a wealth of knowledge and experience in different aspects of waste management. Driven by the TRC Waste Management Strategy 2021, we believe that setting out the waste and resource recovery needs of the region is an essential service that plays a key role in minimising the environmental impact of waste while enhancing public health.
A positive outlook towards the execution of cutting-edge principles in waste diversion strategies will be a great addition to the team. Working with the team also provides the opportunity for enthusiastic candidates to make a difference and work towards “a Sustainable Tomorrow” for the Toowoomba Region.
To be successful in this position:
- Current ‘HR’ Heavy Rigid Class Driver’s Licence is essential.
- Possession of at least one (1) of the following nationally recognised Major Plant competencies at the time of appointment is essential:

- Experience with the following Minor Equipment/Machinery is highly desirable:

- Ride on Sweeper
- Ride on Mower
- Brush Cutter
- Blower

- WHS Competency (White Card) for CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, or a willingness to obtain this card prior to commencement is essential.
- Current Removal of Non-Friable Asbestos (CPCCDE3014A) certificate is desirable.
- First Aid certificate – Provide first aid (HLTAID011) is highly desirable.
- Certificate III in Waste Management is highly desirable.
- Ability to be ‘fit-tested’ for tight-fitting respirators within the first six (6) months of employment.
