Water Management Operational Hydrogeologist

Roster: 8D/6R - FIFO

This role will cover the Cloubreak and Christmas Creek mine sites in the department of Water Management as part of the Chichester Hub Operations

Reporting to the Senior Water Management Engineer, the central function of this position is the ongoing development, implementation and review of dewatering plans to align with monthly operational mine plans.  The position requires excellent communication, time management and technical skills to ensure robust hydrogeological assessments are completed on time and are effectively communicated to the business.  The successful candidate is also resourceful and a self-learner, who actively seeks opportunities for process improvement and innovation in a dynamic work environment.

• Develop monthly dewatering and water supply operational plans and monitoring of dewatering progress, including
  • Reporting and WL contours to give a statement and identify potential future issues 
  • OPF supply projection and availability and advice on alternative locations when in deficient/surplus
• Provide technical guidance and support to operational staff and other business units
• Contribute to development and implementation of work programs (ongoing) and systems to build and align hydrogeological knowledge, conceptual models and numerical model for Chichester operations and address critical risks.
• Contribute to mine planning with respect to mine dewatering and depressurisation.
• Assist in compiling End of Month data and KPI reporting for Management.
• Database management.
• Monitoring data QA/QC.
• Maintain a collaborative relationship with other business units and external parties, contribute to knowledge building and awareness, influence decision making regarding Water Management.
• Generate improvement projects and assist the team to deliver these projects based on the benefit they will provide to the department and our key stakeholders.

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering Geology, Hydrogeology or Geosciences.
• Relevant applied experience in Hydrogeology.
• Water management experience in the mining industry with specifics around large scale open pit dewatering, water supply, reinjection, sumping and tailings operations.
• Knowledge of hydrogeological modelling, monitoring analysis, interpretation and reporting.
• Competent use of hydrogeological software packages.
• Demonstrated ability to engage, connect and influence key stakeholders at all organisational levels.
• Ability to take initiative, work autonomously and as part of a team, to achieve milestones.
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Advance skills in MS Office, in particular Excel
• Strong data management and manipulation skills.
• Proficiency with database and reporting tools such as SQL Server Reporting Services, Tableau and PowerBI will be highly regarded.
• Effective communication & time management skills.
