Job description

  • Improve employment & career opportunities for local communities on the APY Lands
  • Lead a Workforce Development Program supporting Anangu employees
  • Based APY Lands | Housing provided | Attractive salary & leave offerings

The Organisation

Nganampa Health Council (NHC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation operating on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in the far northwest of South Australia, bordering the Northern Territory and Western Australia. The APY Lands are home to almost 3,000 residents. Anangu culture is strong, and Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara are first languages.

NHC operates clinics in the six main communities on the APY lands and provides a range of health-related programs, continually adapting and aligning to Anangu needs.

The Anangu Workforce Development Program (AWDP) has streamlined systems for the recruitment and onboarding of Anangu employees, strengthened the status and responsibilities of Anangu clinic staff, and continued to strengthen NHC’s second responder workforce to ensure the safety of health practitioners. The AWDP works with TAFESA and is optimistic that accredited courses relevant for NHC’s Anangu staff will commence this year, and also participates in a Workforce Development Community of Practice with other organisations on the APY lands.

Benefits

  • The opportunity to contribute to innovative and important work
  • Unique opportunity to spend time in the beautiful APY lands
  • Generous salary and PBI salary packaging benefits plus fully maintained 4WD vehicle
  • Additional annual leave entitlements, relocation and airfare assistance
  • Furnished accommodation on the APY Lands and potential for 8 weeks leave per year

The Role

You will lead NHC’s Anangu Workforce Development Program, building opportunities for the participation of Anangu employees within NHC, and encouraging and supporting Anangu people to expand their engagement with employment.

Specifically your responsibilities include:
  • Effective recruitment, induction, training and performance support of Anangu employees
  • Oversight of the On Call Support Worker Program and safety compliance
  • Coaching and mentoring of staff to build knowledge and skills in inter-cultural work
  • Building relationships and opportunities with training and development providers
  • Community engagement and inter-organisational collaboration to facilitate Anangu employment opportunities

Skills Required

You have extensive experience in inter-cultural work with Indigenous Australians in remote areas or other challenging environments, together with a background in program management within a learning and/or community development context.

Key to your success will be your calm and considered leadership approach, ability to engage with community, foster relationships, build networks and provide an environment for people to learn, combined with your unwavering focus and commitment to fostering Indigenous self-determination.
We strongly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply.

A satisfactory police and working with children check, driver’s licence and COVID vaccination certificates will be required to be provided prior to appointment.

If you are inspired by the opportunity to significantly impact Indigenous Workforce Development, please submit your resume and cover letter responding to the skills required section above.  Alternatively, please phone Hayley Martin on 02 8243 0*** if you have any specific questions.

Please note there is no formal closing date for this role, if you are interested, we would encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
