Job description

Advertised Vacancy Number: IPS/SS880126

This is a nine (9) month fixed term, part-time (0.2FTE) position commencing Term 2, 2024 with possible extension and/or permanency

Cape Naturaliste College (CNC) are seeking a supportive and dedicated Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) to join their friendly school.

The AIEO plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our Indigenous students. As a liaison between the school and community, the AIEO works closely with teachers, students, and families to develop culturally relevant educational programs that empower our Indigenous students to reach their full potential.

Through mentoring and pastoral care, the AIEO provides support and guidance to Indigenous students, particularly those at risk, to encourage participation and achievement in the classroom. With a deep understanding of Indigenous culture and history, the AIEO brings a unique perspective to the school community, promoting respect, understanding and harmony.

In addition to providing support to teachers and students, the AIEO also works closely with the local Indigenous community to facilitate their involvement in shaping school policies and programs. They also conduct home visits to discuss the academic progress or social development of students and provide orientation to staff about the Indigenous community.

If you are passionate about Indigenous education and culture and are looking for a rewarding and challenging role, we invite you to join our team as an AIEO and help us to empower our Indigenous students to reach their full potential.

About the school

Cape Naturaliste College (CNC) was established in 2008 after extensive consultation with members of the community and that strong community involvement continues to this day. The College began its journey as a middle school, with a strong belief in the value of teamwork and a spirit of collaboration that has come to pervade the school ethos. Over time, a visibly strong sense of belonging and pride in the College has grown along with a significant expansion to the breadth and sophistication of the College's facilities, along with its ceremonies, extra-curricular activities, musical and sporting events.
