About the role

As the Aboriginal Heritage Coordinator, the primary focus of your position is to lead a small team of Heritage Advisors in the effective delivery of a range of high priority projects for Parks Victoria. The position leads a small team of heritage advisors providing high level technical support in the delivery of compliance obligations under theAboriginal Heritage Act 2006(Vic) and implementation of the Managing Country Together approach to Traditional Owner partnerships. The role also provides strategic advice and support in positioning Parks Victoria with key organisations involved in the delivery of these projects including Traditional Owner organisations, the Department of Jobs Precincts and Regions (DJPR), and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA).

We're looking for someone with:

  • Extensive experience in the field of Aboriginal cultural heritage protection
  • Expert knowledge of Aboriginal cultural heritage legislation, governance and policies in Victoria
  • Skills and experience in engagement and partnership-building with Traditional Owners, Aboriginal persons and key Aboriginal groups
  • Ability to develop innovative, sensitive and practical solutions, and provide strategic advice to complex issues
  • Leadership and management skills, including the ability to develop and monitor complex work programs and achieve corporate objectives
  • Previous experience and/or specialist or post-graduate qualification in cultural heritage management, natural resource management or similar is required.
