Where You Will Be Working
Surgical Bookings office at the Sutherland Hospital manages elective surgery and medical procedure bookings for a variety of specialties: Ophthalmology, Gynaecology, ENT, Urology, Orthopaedics, Vascular, General Surgery and Gastroenterology. The Administrative Level 3 Booking Officers directly report to the Nurse Unit Manager Surgical Bookings and Pre Admission and Surgical Outpatient Clinics and works collaboratively with surgeons and medical specialists, Pre-Admissions Clinic and Theatre complex to ensure all patients have equal access to surgical services in accordance with Waitlist Management policies.

Provide a range of administrative and clerical support services to enable the Surgical Bookings & Pre-Admission Clinic of The Sutherland Hospital & Community
Health Services to achieve their objectives in a timely, reliable and efficient manner.
Our Hospital And Community
The Sutherland Hospital is a 375-bed, major metropolitan hospital and an associated teaching hospital of the University of NSW, which is part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and is located in Caringbah, a southern suburb of Sydney. Established in 1958, The Sutherland Hospital campus offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and community services to around 226,000 residents of the Sutherland Shire, colloquially known as ‘The Shire’
A $62.9 million redevelopment has delivered a new and expanded emergency department, 60 new acute inpatient beds, and storage space for theatres to improve efficiencies. Current refurbishment works to provide an expanded medical imaging service are in progress.
The hospital campus is close to some of Sydney’s great beaches, restaurants, bars and cafes at Cronulla and is close to the beautiful Royal National Park. Gymea is another lively suburb with many restaurants and cafes. At Miranda, just a short walk away from the hospital, there is a Westfield Shopping Centre and cinema complex.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Ability to perform a wide range of administrative tasks in a demanding workload
- Experience of responding to a range of enquiries and determining the appropriate response in a complex work environment
- High level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to providing quality service and quality improvement initiatives in workplace practices and procedures
- Ability to use computer hardware, software applications and electronic systems at a basic level in accordance with policy and procedure
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.
A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.
