Allied Health Assistant (Behaviour Support Assistant)

Fixed Term Contract to end of Term 4 - 38 hours/week - Term Time only

Due to our growth, we are seeking a highly motivated Allied Health Assistant/Behaviour Support Assistantto support our students (young people) in our school setting. The successful candidate will work alongside our education and specialist Behaviour Support team, external therapists, and the young person's parents and carers. Ideally suited to someone with Allied Health Assistant experience or currently studying in the areas of Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Behaviour Therapy or Psychology. This role provides an opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of young people with autism.

As the Behaviour Support Assistant, you will:  

• Support young autistic people in a holistic education environment that is individually responsive, relative, and relational. 
• Contribute to the provision of an evidence-based, relevant, and effective curriculum by assisting and supporting teachers with the preparation of learning materials, supervising activities, and completing administrative duties. 
• Support the delivery of individualised programs so that young people will benefit from the curriculum to their greatest capacity and become empowered to be confident members of their community. 

Responsibilities: 

• Work collaboratively with the education and specialist team to provide support for young people on the autism spectrum. 
• Work with individual young people and groups using a range of strategies to support their learning. 
• Draw on specialist skills and knowledge to respond effectively to young people.
• Prompt and/or assist each young person in the achievement of goals while actively encouraging the independence and competency of each young person within his/her capacity. 
• Attend and contribute to team meetings and professional development activities. 

 Requirements: 

• Relevant qualifications or experience in Allied Health Assistant fields such as Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Behaviour Therapy or Psychology. 
• Experience working with young people with autism spectrum disorder, preferable.  
• Previous experience working in a school or education environment, preferable.  
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team. 
• Excellent communication skills. 
• Proven ability to work independently, manage time and prioritise tasks. 
• Possess a Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
• Have the right to live and work in Australia.
