About the role
AEMO's Forecasting department is responsible for providing long and medium-term forecasts of Australia's energy supply and demand. The Reliability Forecasting team is responsible for delivering critical insights and data to manage the reliability of Australia’s power systems over the next decade. As an Analyst, you will support the delivery of key publications and delivering insightful analysis on the NEM electricity market. Focusing on modelling, analysis and understanding the drivers and risks to the reliability of electricity supply in the NEM including analysis of energy limitations, like the potential impact of drought or coal and gas supply shortfalls.
What you will be doing
- Undertake market modelling and analysis to inform the reliability and development of Australia’s power systems
- Work with power system stakeholders to collect and validate data to inform relevant reliability and operability forecasting studies
- Document results and draw key conclusions using clear and concise language that is understandable to a diverse audience
- Maintain quality documentation to capture improvements to procedures and processes
- Contribute to major publications and stand-alone reports for internal and external audiences, that convey complex ideas and analysis
What you will bring to the role
- Experience in a modelling role in industry or consulting
- Experience working with PLEXOS or other similar energy market modelling software
- Strong quantitative analysis capability utilising databases and software such as MS Office suite, SQL, R, VBA, Python, Power BI, databricks and PowerBI to design and run data analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to draw out conclusions from modelling results
- Sound knowledge of energy market principles (with preference for the NEM), generator behaviour, network constraints, and power system operation
