Our client is seeking to engage APS4 and APS6 Finance Officers.

Location: All Capital Cities (Australia Wide)

Contract Length: Identification of a qualified candidate for the Department to Section 26

Job overview

The Finance Officer role reports directly to the Finance Manager in the Property and Security Branch. The team undertakes a range of financial activities, primarily relating to management accounting and budget management.

The Senior Property Finance Officer provides high-level financial management support and advice for all property and security related transactions. The successful applicant will demonstrate experience in month end processing, budget preparation and financial performance monitoring and reporting. Previous experience using TechnologyOne is desirable.

Key duties/tasks:

  • Manage month end activities for various funding sources (staffing, property operating and capital projects) including:
  1. Preparing, reviewing, and posting monthly journals including accruals.
  2. Reconciliations of various complex natural accounts, cost centers and projects.
  3. Updating forecasting monthly in line with current activities and strategic priorities.
  4. Ensuring the general ledger is maintained in an accurate manner.
  5. Preparing monthly management reports and Dashboards for Senior Executives.
  6. Undertake in-depth financial trend and variance analysis where required.
  • Assist with the bi-annual budget development and management for various funding sources related to Branch activities.
  • The financial management of property assets, including capitalisation and disposals.
  • The financial management of contracts relevant to Branch activities, including contract creations and variations.
  • Provide periodic analysis and reporting to support Branch activities and ensure quality assurance.
  • Provide strategic advice and assistance to the Senior Executives and stakeholders based on technical expertise.
  • Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders, internal and external, to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation.
  • Communicate and make balanced decisions using professional judgement, evaluating available information, factoring in risks and being sensitive to the context.
  • Contribute to the identification, development, and implementation of opportunities to improve business management practices and processes.
  • Develop and implement robust quality assurance strategies, policies, and guidance material to ensure strong financial governance arrangements.
  • Provide leadership to staff, sharing learnings and supporting others to develop team capability.
  • Support the Property Finance Manager with other tasks as needed.

Knowledge required:

A comprehensive understanding of:

  • The Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013, and associated rules.

Qualifications and/or registration with professional bodies

Mandatory:

  • Completed or working towards a Bachelor of Accounting or equivalent.
Desirable:
  • Completed or working towards a CA or CPA qualification.
  • Experience with TechnologyOne.
  • Strong Excel capabilities.
