The Operational Support team is transforming the way Regulatory Compliance Branch conducts business through improved governance, policy and procedural support, and professionalization of the workforce. We are a small team setting the foundation for Inspectors to undertake compliance and enforcement activities under Australia's transport security legislation, the Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Act 2003 and the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004. Officers in the Branch are based in Australia's mainland capital cities regulate over 2,000 transport security industry participants, conducting compliance activities in Australia and overseas, and working closely with law enforcement and security agencies, including the Australian Border Force and Australian Federal Police. We contribute to whole of government efforts to safeguard against unlawful interference (for example, terrorism) in the transport sector.

Duties and responsibilities
The successful applicant will be required to:
Lead a team that is working collaboratively to transform governance, policy and procedural support for regulatory compliance activities, consistent with legislation and in accordance with the Compliance and Enforcement Framework. Critically evaluate existing policies and practices against legislation and best practice to identify efficiencies and develop and implement new ways of operating
Manage transport security incident reporting, recording and referral, including the after hours duty roster. Lead the research, analysis, interpretation and presentation of data to provide meaning about security incidents
Liaise with stakeholders to identify requirements and develop strong and productive working relationships
Produce high-level written material, corporate documentation and reports
Lead a team to identify, develop and deliver national resources to professionalise the workforce to enable consistent understanding and practice
Employ contemporary change management practices to introduce and implement changes in practice
Support the Director Operational Support in the organisational planning, financial management and development of the Operational Support Team
Identify opportunities for growth and development of team members and building strong bonds that enhance retention and morale of office team members.
Additional information
Qualifications/Experience:
Experience in policy or program management
Experience interpreting and applying legislation
Legal qualifications will be highly regarded.
The roles are based in Canberra but suitable alternative locations in may be considered for suitable candidates located in QLD, NSW, VIC.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
