AddressAn exciting opportunity is presented for a livestock-focused Assistant Manager who is seeking a stimulating and dynamic role that will provide a challenge under the mentorship of a highly experienced manager. The vibrant enterprise currently conducts an Autumn calving program with 920 cows to produce weaner steers alongside 7,600 composite ewes for prime lamb production, with the jewel in the crown being their 130 stud Hampshire Down ewes.
Reporting directly to the long-term manager, you will have a passion for livestock and learning as you will be involved in all aspects of the business daily, including forward planning, budgeting and staff allocations. Strong communication, organisational skills and digital literacy will all assist you in ensuring accurate record-keeping and liaising with various stakeholders. Progression of the business is a crucial principle and ensures that technology is actively embraced, including AgriWebb and water reticulation monitoring programs to support data-based decision-making throughout the enterprise.
The commercial flock is monitored utilising EIDs, rotationally grazed within breeding groups, and bikes and SBS for all stock movements, ably assisted by working dogs. The ongoing infrastructure program ensures that animal husbandry tasks are as comfortable as possible, including the recent installation of new undercover sheep yards fitted with bulk and Clipex handlers and a new shearing shed constructed in recent years. Under the guidance of a contracted agronomist, an annual pasture renovation program is undertaken on 100 Ha to ensure optimum stock performance.
Approximately 400Ha is utilised for commercial and fodder crops under a share farm arrangement, including wheat, faba beans, lucerne and small seeds, with 240 ha of the program under centre pivots. The other party predominantly carries out associated tasks, however, you may sometimes undertake some duties during peak times.

The Ideal Candidate
Applications are sought from energetic livestock-focused candidates who have the following attributes:
- A minimum 4 years' experience with livestock, preferably both sheep and cattle or at least 2 years in a similar senior position
- Leadership experience, either in a small team or other areas of life
- Low-stress stock handling knowledge and skills
- Own team of quality working dogs
- Strong communication, organisational and problem solving skills.
- Willingness to continuously learn.
- Machinery operation skills
- Mechanical aptitude and fabrication skills
- General farm maintenance skills, including fencing.
- HR licence (not essential)
- Chemical certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Lifetime Ewe qualification (or willingness to obtain)
