Business Analyst - Virtual Power Plant

This Business Analyst - VPP role is responsible for supporting the development, delivery, and iteration of electrification products, and helping build AGL as a market leader in electrification. Working with a Product Owner, this role develops product features, working closely with cross-functional resources including Service Designers, Marketing Specialists, Growth Managers and Digital and Technology resources. It further leverages subject matter expertise from across AGL to support product development and ensure products comply with relevant regulations and standards.

This role sits within an E&I value stream which is responsible for the end-to-end incubation and commercial development of new products and offerings that help Australians decarbonise how they live and move.

About the Role:

  • Support the Product Owner in developing and iterating product features and requirements through desktop research and collaboration with internal stakeholders, gathering and validating requirements, leading stakeholder meetings, translating customer and technical requirements, maintaining documentation in Confluence, testing products, and using Jira to manage workflow.
  • Conduct product and data analysis to support decision-making by synthesizing insights, extracting data for budget and monthly reporting, using statistical tools like Excel, building/maintaining dashboards, handling incomplete or conflicting data, performing competitor analysis, market sizing, forecasting, product performance reviews, and gathering insights from user research.
  • Create prototypes and product features with cross-functional teams, and conduct user research through surveys, interviews, and usability testing to gain insights into user needs, preferences, and behaviours for electrification products.
  • Documentation Ownership: Create and maintain technical documentation such as system architecture diagrams, data flow charts, and process flows to support the understanding of product development.
  • Problem Solving: Actively engage in problem-solving activities throughout the development lifecycle. Identify issues, obstacles, or challenges that need to be solved, working collaboratively with the team to devise effective and timely solutions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Active collaboration with cross-functional capabilities, including Service Designers, Digital/Technology resources, Visual Designers and Marketing Specialists to ensure testing activities align with project objectives and timelines.


What you'll be doing:

  • Bachelor's degree in a subject related to business, science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, highly regarded
  • Proven experience (3+ years) within a business analysis or product development role, proven ability to effectively problem solve.
  • Previous experience working on consumer electrification products in Australia.
  • Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, such as user manuals and/or system architecture diagrams.
  • Familiarity with navigating relevant regulations and laws on emerging technologies.
  • Ability to engage with and manage stakeholders at various levels, including executives and end-users.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to systematically identify, isolate, and report defects.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams in an agile environment.
