About the Children and Family Intensive Support Program

The Children and Family Intensive Support Program is a new program funded by Australian Government Department of Social Services. The program will deliver services for families that will build on the strengths of families and communities to care for children in their culture. Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation will be a key member of the Children and Family Intensive Support Program which uses collaborative, culturally appropriate, strengths-based and Family-centred approaches to support families to address a range of issues such as family/household assessment and engagement, case management and referrals. The program will provide culturally responsive, trauma informed and child centred services to Children and their families/households that are based on evidence and respond to the needs in the community.

Conditions of employment covered by the Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation Enterprise Agreement 2018. Salary range starting at $37.19 per hour. Option to salary package a maximum of $16,050 from your gross salary each year; 5 weeks pro rata annual leave per year; and a 35-hour week. Skills and experience

Essential

  • Work with clients to undertake assessments to develop, implement, monitor and review their client goals and outcomes that identify strengths as well as areas of risk, ensuring Children and young people are actively engaged in the process.
  • Promote skills which increase child health, safety and development;
  • Promote family skill development through modelling, practice, discussion and other practical support.
  • Attend review meetings, case conferences, worker meetings and consultation meeting and ensure appropriate documentation is kept.
  • Coordinate with other service providers including Government Departments and agencies, schools, health services, GP’s and allied health providers to ensure services are delivered.
  • Advise the Team Leader of any significant changes or concerns regarding the client, their home environment, wellbeing, their services, or other risks, as soon as possible.
  • Work with families in a way that is welcoming and encourages culturally appropriate parent-child interactions.
  • Ensure Client files are maintained, including all written and verbal communication with the client are record in the client file in a timely manner. Case plans are reviewed and updated.
  • Promote the activities of the program to service providers and the community.
  • Attend and participate in regular team meetings and meetings with supervisor.
  • Provide first aid assistance to persons suffering from an illness and/or injury where required.
  • Contribute to a proactive and positive team culture.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities.
  • Maintain respect for Larrakia people and traditional country;
  • Ensure best practice of OH&S and guidelines are followed.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated Knowledge/experience in working with culturally diverse communities and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
  • Working towards qualification in Community Services or similar and a minimum 2 years’ experience working with families, Children and young people.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and a commitment to early intervention as a strategy to optimise child outcome
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the range of family risk and protective factors which impact on child outcomes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the stresses on vulnerable families
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child protection issues and the NT child protection system
  • Relevant experience in Intensive Family Support Work, social work or community work.
  • Demonstrated good writing skills and experience in writing reports
  • Possession of, or ability to quickly acquire, a First Aid & CPR Certificate
  • A valid Working with Children (OCHRE) Card and Current NT Driver’s Licence (C Class minimum)

Desirable:

  • Identify as Indigenous
  • Proven experience working in case management and use of case management programs and/or tools
