About the position
Under broad direction, this leadership position oversees and coordinates the functions of the Fleet and Depot Services teams including depot operations, purchasing and stores, fleet procurement, fleet maintenance, and mechanical engineering, ensuring the continuing serviceability and efficient operation of the City's fleet, plant, and minor equipment. The City of Perth operates a 24/7 Waste and Cleaning services which require the delivery of high-quality servicing and preventative maintenance programs to ensure the City's plant, Fleet and equipment are safe, reliable, and available for use.
Looking forward, we will be transitioning our fleet from ICE (Internal Combustion Engines) to BEV (Battery Electric Vehicles) over the next decade and you will play a pivotal part in this change project.
The successful candidate will support the City by:
- Ensure all staff understand their role accountabilities, performance standards, and effort is managed through effective two-way communication, and the provision of appropriate feedback and development opportunities.
- Plan and prioritise the Fleet and Depot sub-unit's projects and initiatives with accountability for outcomes, including the establishment of work plans and monitoring workflows to meet deadlines and KPIs.
- Prepare and review specifications in consultation with relevant custodians, coordinate and manage contracts and carry out management of works delivered through contract resources.
- Ensure the optimum utilisation of vehicles, plant, and equipment to minimise costs.
- Preparation and monitoring of 10-year strategic renewal program.
- Regularly report to the Alliance Manager on Fleet and Depot Services performance and discuss strategies and issues.
Essential Criteria
- Appropriate formal trade qualifications or extensive relevant industry experience in managing a fleet workshop with a variety of vehicles and plant.
- Proven effective leadership competencies with an ability to align diverse groups of employees to work collaboratively towards common goals.
- Proven competency in financial management covering operating budgets, procurement, and capital works.
- 'C' class drivers licence.
