The opportunity:
The Business Manager will be warmly welcomed into a team of diverse, highly skilled and passionate health professionals working in a rapidly growing and exciting field of Integrative Oncology and Supportive cancer care. This is a part time position offering some flexibility to the applicant re: hours and days of work. The team will look to the Business Manager to seamlessly coordinate the finances, and assist with business strategic planning, working closely with the head of the department to grow and manage a sustainable and rapidly growing and unique area of cancer Supportive Care.
The Business Manager will also assist with developing material and disseminating information withing the hospital and more broadly to develop and grow the service and stakeholder engagement.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day business operations within the Supportive Care and Integrative Oncology department
- Assist in the development of business plans for developing service and business models for care delivery
- Seek, build and engage business partnership and health funding bodies to continue to develop the business profile and reach of the service.
- Engage in strategies to improve funding opportunities in the sector
- Reports to and works with the Director of Integrative Oncology and Supportive Services at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse.
- Develop and maintain a suite of practice policies and procedures
- Work in collaboration with the finance department to develop relevant and practical reports and audit payments and rebates from Medicare, clients, health funds, practitioners, etc.
- Support the team to promote departmental activities, develop educational and promotional material materials and dissemination in collaboration with hospital communications team and head of IOSC department.
- Regularly review our statutory obligations and accreditation requirements
The following selection criteria are essential:
- Strong business and management background
- Demonstrate success in the area of business, ideally in the health care setting
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively manage a busy multidisciplinary health service
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of the health care funding models
- Business and computer skills
- Advanced computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, electronic recording systems and data management tools, along with a capacity to learn new clinical software packages
- The ability to create and maintain stakeholder relationships including those with patients, carers, staff, health practitioners and external stakeholders such as community organisations
- A high level working knowledge of the health care system, Medicare and Health insurance processes and requirements
- Proven track record in problem solving and effective decision making under pressure
- Experience in financial management of a sustainable healthcare practice
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a productive team member
- Experience in strategic planning, business case design, financial forecasting and report writing
- Awareness of, and alignment with, the vision and values of Chris O’Brien Lifehouse
The following are highly desirable:
- Experience working in multidisciplinary healthcare
- Understanding of Supportive Care and integrative medicine
- MBA or equivalent relevant degree
- Economics /finance and or management background
- Experience with healthcare business development activities
