The Local Health District / NSW Organ and Tissue Donation Service (OTDS) Donation Specialist Nurse (DSN) is responsible for raising awareness of and providing clinical and educational services on organ and tissue donation for all LHD medical, nursing and allied health staff. The DSN will be actively involved in all relevant end of life conversations and the Family Donation Conversation (FDC), ensuring that all elements of the Best Practice Guideline for offering organ and tissue donation are met, in particular, the collaborative approach. The DSN is responsible for auditing deaths and organ donation referral practices across the LHD, as determined by the Organ and Tissue Donation Service (OTDS) and the Australian Organ Donation and Transplantation Authority. Working across the LHD and also with state wide, cross LHD responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the OTDS in collaboration with LHD line management.
If you have:
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) and a minimum of 5 years’ fulltime equivalent post registration experience and at least 3 years’ full time equivalent experience in critical care and a postgraduate qualification in critical care or area related to the clinical specialty.
- Commitment to champion, educate, lead other health professionals to improve organ and tissue donation rates and outcomes as a part of a team.
- Proven clinical expertise and leadership skills in critical care and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework demonstrating commitment to excellence in Nursing Practice.
- Demonstrated ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the initiation, utilisation and review of evidence based research.
- Demonstrated leadership in strategic and clinical service planning and experience and expertise in the management of organisational and cultural change.
- Valid unrestricted drivers' licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment and willingness and capacity to work on call out of hours and on weekend at sites with the NSW Organ Donation Network across NSW.
