Collections Officer

Our multi-award-winning law firm is looking for a Collections Officer who ticks the boxes below:

• Two years of experience in collections 
• Effective communication skills for negotiating with debtors and conveying payment terms clearly.
• Advanced computer literacy skills including Word, Excel and Microsoft Teams
• Ability to explain complex financial terms in a simple and understandable manner.
• Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations
• Strong negotiation skills to find mutually agreeable solutions and set up realistic payment plans.
• Problem solving skills with the capability to identify underlying issues contributing to payment delays and propose effective solutions.
• Analytical abilities to assess financial situations, evaluate credit histories, and determine appropriate collection strategies.
• Persistence in pursuing overdue payments without becoming overly aggressive or violating ethical standards.
• Basic understanding of relevant debt collection laws and regulations to ensure compliance and avoid legal issues.
• The ability to work independently and autonomously with a strong work ethic
• Time management, adaptability and high level of attention to detail
• Desire to deliver results

Everything you need to know about a typical day as New South’s newest Collections Officer 

You’ll walk in and probably have a chat with your colleague over a coffee in the kitchen. See when we say we want to create a great culture, we mean it! After you settle in, this role will see you working closely with New South’s highly experienced accounts teams as well as collaborating with clients and members of the extended team. 
 

Under the guidance of New South Lawyers’ Company Accountant and CFO, during the course of your role, you will be given the opportunity to assist in a number of duties. These will include: 

• Accounts Receivables, including, but not limited to:
  - sending out reminders and overdue notices
  - phone calls to clients following up payment of outstanding accounts
  -  responding to client queries regarding accounts
  - meeting with clients to discuss accounts
• Liaising with external debt collection firm to escalate accounts when they are overdue by 30+ days.
• Credit Control, including, but not limited to:
  - ensuring clients accounts are within their terms
  - assisting lawyers with preparing cost agreements, invoices, and new matters and following up payments
  - liaising with clients and lawyers regarding status of clients accounts
• Other Administrative Tasks, including, but not limited to:
  - assisting the finance team with various accounting tasks such as invoicing, receipting, and month end reconciliations 
  - assisting the administrative team with filing, scanning and organising documents and files
