Job description

You will join a group of communications professionals within the firm’s Reach and Engagement function. These colleagues help ensure that appropriate insights reach designated audiences, building awareness and engagement with McKinsey’s distinctive knowledge on a variety of topics. They shape the way the firm connects with people, from clients to employees to alumni, strengthening institutional relationships, connections, and affiliations.

Through coordination of events and management of communications and relevant tools, you will contribute to the development and implementation of best-in-class global communications programs, events, and publications.

You will be a member of McKinsey’s Australia and New Zealand (AUO) Reach and Engagement team based in Sydney. The role of Coordinator is integral to the team’s efforts to shape and manage McKinsey’s reputation and communications strategy across Australia and New Zealand. Reporting to the AUO Reach and Engagement Senior Manager, the Coordinator will work closely with Managers, Specialists and other Coordinators across the function, as well as firm consultants.

You will leverage a range of skills such as writing, attention to detail, program management and self-motivation to elevate the firm’s communications, showcase the firm’s knowledge and assets, and protect the firm’s reputation across channels, platforms, and stakeholders.

In terms of creating effective communications: you will create clear, structured, and engaging written communications products (e.g., memos, emails, short-form content, blogs, talking points/scripts, Q&A), aligning with firm leadership when necessary. You will contribute (through brainstorming, editing, writing, and/or creating) to the strategic development of external and/or internal communications (e.g., paid media, earned media, CRM support, social media support). You’ll assist in the planning and execution of communications for reports, events and special projects (e.g., digital strategy design, knowledge partnership strategy), external/internal conferences, and events (e.g., forums, webinars, roundtables). Additionally, you will be expected to follow branding guidelines (i.e., firm's signature voice, visuals, and narrative) across communications platforms and channels in support of relevant brand pivots.

In terms of project management and execution: you will perform relevant quality and risk reviews of communications, proactively identifying and raising risks with colleagues, and suggesting potential courses of action. You will stay up to date on latest thought leadership and relevant industry content and insights, and ensure they are built into messaging strategically. You will contribute to relevant data tracking within operations and data collection for potential client leads, providing updates to leadership when necessary. You’ll also build and maintain contact databases to maximize dissemination and engagement.

  • Bachelor’s/university degree required
  • 3+ years of experience in a business communications-related field, a benefit if in a professional services environment, corporate communications role, government, or communications agency background

  • Mastery of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Effective communication skills across formats (e.g., written, verbal/presentation, digital-ready content)
  • Able to work independently and entrepreneurially and see projects through end to end, effectively managing and prioritising deadlines
  • Able to influence and direct colleagues, and manage needs of different stakeholders (including relevant senior leaders)
  • Able to distill complex ideas into compelling narratives across different formats
  • Able to collaborate well in teams, receive and provide feedback
  • Exhibits core firm values in attitude and work (e.g., owning development, driving work, demonstrating resilience)
