Where the rainforest meets the reef, the Douglas Shire is celebrated for its World Heritage wonders and immersive natural experiences. Not only is it on the bucket list of travellers around the globe, but the Douglas Shire is also a special place to call home, delivering the ultimate balance in lifestyle and livelihood.
Right now, paradise is hiring.
In an unprecedented weather event, the Douglas Shire was impacted by Tropical Cyclone Jasper in December 2023. Recovery work has been extensive and intense, and our beautiful Shire continues to shine as we welcome back visitors and restore confidence in our world-class destination.
As the Shire continues its disaster recovery efforts, several new roles have been created with Douglas Shire Council to undertake the important work of rebuilding Queensland's tropical haven, including this role Community Development Officer.
The purpose and function of the Community Development Officer role is to facilitate projects and assist the Community & Economic Development Team to achieve the goals and objectives as outlined in the Corporate Plan and Operational Plan.
Working collaboratively with communities to identify their aspirations to live a safe, equitable, inclusive and sustainable lifestyle you will develop, implement and evaluate community-based projects developed collaboratively by Council and the local community. Additionally, you will identify appropriate funding opportunities for Council and local community organisations to assist in the delivery of programs and projects.
To be successful you will bring demonstrated experience and understanding of the application of Community Development principles. You are a confident communicator with high level oral and written reporting and communication skills with a diverse range of stakeholders.
You will need to be outcomes focussed, think critically, be innovative in delivery, but also deeply anchored to systems and processes to excel in this position. You will hold appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience in Community Development or community services. Similarly substantial significant experience in community support areas like youth services/domestic violence will be advantageous. Local Government experience would be highly regarded, but is not essential.
If you're yearning for a relaxed lifestyle where it's warm in winter and adventure awaits around every corner, this position is calling. You'll be joining talented professionals who have made this close community home, leaving the rush hour behind to experience genuine work/life balance.
