The Community Planning and Development Branch connect, empower and celebrate communities and places through the facilitation of programs, grants, partnerships, social planning and community engagement. We support and develop initiatives that build the resilience of our communities and create opportunities that are available for all.

Working within a passionate and exciting team of Community Development practitioners, the focus of this role is to engage and work with our diverse multicultural communities to improve wellbeing and inclusion through the provision of effective, responsive and innovative Community Development programs.

In addition you will aim to improve access to information, services, networks and resources. 

Key Duties:

  • Assist the Team Leader in identifying and assessing the region’s Community Development needs.
  • Lead on the implementation of key actions from the Sunshine Coast Community Strategy 2019-2041 Action Plan in collaboration with partners and key stakeholders.
  • Encourage and support the development and facilitation of new and innovative Community Development projects, programs and services.
  • Continually evaluate, review and deliver services that balance community needs with corporate and operational priorities.
  • Build the capacity of the community through the development of skills and networks in order for them to advocate effectively for themselves.


About you

You will have strong knowledge and experience working in Community Development and be well versed with relevant legislation, policies, procedures and standards. 

With strong business acumen skills and experience, you have the ability to prepare reports, presentations, planning and policy documents. 

You are a confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to build business relationships. You have demonstrated experience in active listening, consultation and influencing for outcomes.  

Experience and knowledge in working with organisations to deliver sustainable development of communities is also required.

Your strong project management skills will help you to develop and facilitate new and innovative Community Development projects.

Experience in working with Culturally Linguistically and Diverse Communities (CALD), and local businesses to deliver outcomes for the wider community is desirable.

As a requirement of this role, you will hold a tertiary qualification in Community Development, Social Science or relevant field, or substantial relevant experience. 

Additional you will hold a current "C" Class Drivers Licence.
