About the role
As a member of the Community Development Team, you will work under supervision from the Community Development Lead to undertake a range of tasks that require the application of good knowledge and skills to achieve results in line with Better Together Community Support and program goals. Your primary program of service will be the Community Support Program which includes Community Development projects, Personal Support and Emergency Relief programs.
You will:
- Work in a team environment that includes paid staff and volunteers to meet program and Better Together goals.
- Adhere to established policies and procedures when working with clients and the community.
- Be able to contribute to project planning using local knowledge and/or Community Development principles.
- Be required to keep professional case notes and implement other professional helping practice strategies.
- As required during the absence of the Community Support Lead, provide coordination, backup and support to volunteers and clients to direct and maintain workflow and services.
Responsibilities
You will be required to take responsibility for contributing to the operational objectives of the Community Development Team by:
- Adhering to Better Together policies and procedures.
- Undertaking a range of community engagement strategies as identified by the Community Development Lead
- Engage clients who access Better Together Community Support programs using a professional helping model and supervision.
- Participate in planning and coordinating Community Development projects.
- Support volunteers in day-to-day tasks at the Centre.
- Undertake reception duties as required to ensure a positive client experience
- Understand computer operation database requirements to inform reporting and project planning.
- Complete assigned tasks that align with position and experience.

Better Together Community Support (formerly Community Services Tablelands), located in the scenic Atherton Tablelands about 1.5 hours away from Cairns, Queensland, is a not-for-profit organisation that delivers a variety of services to the people of the Atherton Tablelands. These range from counselling for families, young people and the elderly to home maintenance and modifications services as well as delivering relief services to the general community through our community hub.

Selection Criteria
Qualifications
- Cert III in Community Services would be highly regarded.
- Experience in working in the community/human services sector in case work, community engagement or related role.
- Driver C Class Licence.
- Current Working with Children Blue Card or able to successfully apply.
- Undertake a successful Police Check.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge and experience of contemporary principles and practices of:
- Best practice client administration and office management.
- Legislation relating to your role.
- Better Together governance framework, policies, andprocedures.
- Continuous improvement.
- Cross cultural understanding.
Demonstrated experience
- Understanding and/or experience of Community Development concepts including networks, assets, and principles
- Ability to implement organisation policies and procedures.
- Apply interpersonal skills such as building rapport and exploring client experience.
- Ability to be an active participant within a team environment
- Understanding and awareness of social justice issues within the community.
- Ability to use office software and databases including Microsoft Word, Outlook
- Managing your time and ensuring office hours coverage.
- Basic research skills.
