Employee Relations Manager

Location: Parramatta CBD (flexible working arrangement)

Employment type: Ongoing, Full-time (1 vacancy)

Salary: Clerk Grade 11/12, $139,787 to $161,663 p.a. plus employers' contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Your role

In this role no two days are the same in the Employee Relations team. On a day-to-day basis you may be providing advice on ER issues, negotiating with relevant unions or representing DCJ at various employment tribunals.

Reporting to Director, you will lead a team partnering with DCJ business areas to resolve complex, sensitive Employee Relations matters and provide consistent, high quality specialist advice and services that contribute to optimum outcomes for the Agency in the resolution of Employee Relations matters.

What you’ll do

  • Manage complex Employee Relations matters to identify and respond to risks, overcome barriers, provide solutions, make evidence-based recommendations, and support senior executives to successfully manage Employee Relations issues across DCJ.
  • Appear before various industrial tribunals on behalf of the Department/Division/Business Centre to ensure the organisation meets legislative and government policy requirements.
  • Partner with other parts of People to design, plan and implement the Employee Relations aspects of agency programs, policies, and procedures, working across the People Directorate to contribute to a seamless end-to-end HR service that is client orientated and outcomes focused.
  • Lead and manage a range of initiatives to deliver Employee Relations strategy and services to DCJ that support workplace reform and build organisational workforce capability.
  • Maintain good communication and positive relationships with employees, senior managers, and senior executive to build employee engagement.
  • Ensure the organisation meets legislative and government policy requirements, by providing reliable expert advice on complex matters and overseeing consultative arrangements to develop a cohesive workforce.
  • Manage the development, implementation and review of an IR consultation framework and processes to achieve effective industrial consultation.
  • Lead a team of staff, foster a strong sense of professionalism amongst staff with an emphasis on quality and client-oriented service, and facilitate their ongoing development to ensure optimal service delivery.
  • Lead negotiations with unions on industrial matters, including the making of new employment conditions to ensure equitable and pragmatic resolutions to disputes and major industrial issues are achieved.

What we’re looking for

  • Previous deep Industrial Relations background (minimum 5 years) preferably with tribunal experience
  • Conflict management and strategic planning skills
  • Skilled communicator both written and verbal
  • Must be able to demonstrate resilience with experience in highly industrialised environments
  • Able to manage competing interests, complex conversations, and stakeholder management with senior management
  • Strong business and commercial acumen
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills

While the Department of Communities and Justice offers a flexible or hybrid working arrangement some office work will be required and therefore to be considered for this role you would need to live in NSW or be relocating to NSW.
