Overview of the positionEvent Supervisors report to the Venue Operations Manager and are responsible for the smooth and efficient running of the operational side of commercial, private & internal events across the MCA Venues on the event day.
The role ensures that client and vendor needs are met, with the highest level of customer service and attention to detail, while representing the MCA to the highest standard & ensuring MCA policies and procedures are adhered to.
As an Event Supervisor your main objective is to ensure successful delivery of the event from end to end whilst providing excellent customer service to venue hire clients, their suppliers, and guests.
Tasks and responsibilities of the position- The key point of contact for venues clients and internal event owners, on the event day, providing a high standard of customer service.
- Review event orders to ensure a sound knowledge of each event at the start of each shift, with responsibility to oversee the delivery of the full event process from set-up, through to service and pack down. Liaising with internal and external suppliers and delivery partners to ensure smooth and successful event operations.
- Lead & direct venue suppliers including Security & Cleaners.
- Set up & test standard AV requirements of the event including welcome screen, microphone, music & internal lighting.
- Assist with placement of internal inclusions such as cocktail tables, easel and stools and provide other bump-in/out assistance where appropriate.
- Provide detailed post event reporting including any venue damage, or lost property.
- Understand risk assessments within their own workplace and ensure the reporting of any new risks or hazards to the Event Operations Manager. As well as ensuring appropriate reporting in cases of incidents, near misses or accidents in a timely and accurate manner to appropriate line manager in your Event Report.
- Undertake the necessary administration tasks.
- Ability to proactively problem solve client & guest issues during the event if they arise.
- Provide feedback and ideas to the Event Operations Manager & Head of Venues to drive improvements in the overall venues product and operational systems.
- Flexibility with position description & may be called on to assist other departments or perform tasks outside of your usual duties to support the MCA general operations.
- Provide the care and safety of artworks and visitors.
- Remain in compliance with all training and safe working procedures for their work activities within one’s job role.
Essential criteria
Applicants must be able to demonstrate they have:
- min 2+ years in the Hospitality or Event Industry with experience in a supervisor role;
- can work autonomously resolving complex client issues without supervision;
- excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
- proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook;
- always punctual and considerate of fellow work colleagues;
- having a flexible attitude with changing rosters and the ability to work a variety of hours including weekends, evenings and early mornings;
- a positive and “can do” attitude towards work and work colleagues;
- always focussed on providing excellent customer service;
- ability to manage multiple teams;
- hold and maintain a valid RSA.
Desirable criteria
It would be good if applicants have:
- First Aid Certificate;
- interest in contemporary art and/or the cultural sector

This is a casual position working alongside other Events Supervisors and reporting to the Venue Operations Manager. As this role works within the MCA’s events program and due to its operational nature, flexibility will be required in relation to duties and working hours (there may be some short notice shifts/shift changes). Most shifts will be rostered on evenings and weekends, and availability is subject to business needs and requirements.
Casual hourly rates include:
- Base Hourly Rate which includes casual loading (Monday to Saturday): $42.26
- Sunday Rate and Public Holiday rates apply
- Overtime rates
- Casual loading paid for overtime
- Meal allowance for shifts 10 hours +
- superannuation: 11% super payments (in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act 1992).
