Your new role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this role leads the development and implementation of Abound Communities compliance and risk management systems to meet legislative requirements using contemporary and best practice approaches.

The aim of the role is to strengthen organisational capability to identify and mitigate risk, ensure legislative compliance, manage quality systems, enhance employee safety and health, prevent, and manage workplace injury and optimise productivity and quality care. The position will liaise with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders requiring strong communication skills, discretion and confidentiality. Moreover, you will lead the development and implementation of comprehensive programs to uphold the utmost standards of care, safety, and regulatory compliance within our aged care, home care, and retirement village divisions. Your key responsibilities will encompass the establishment of effective quality assurance frameworks, proactive risk management strategies, and meticulous adherence to regulatory standards and industry best practices.

About You

You will ideally bring the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Health, or related field. 
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in risk management, compliance, and quality assurance leadership roles 
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and industry best practices. 
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful risk management, compliance, and quality assurance programs. 
  • Sound analysis and reporting and computer skills. 
  • Full Covid 19 and other related vaccination 

Key Responsibilities of the role

Governance 

  • Develop policies, procedures and associated documents consistent with legislation and regulatory requirements to mitigate risk. 
  • Implement a reporting framework that includes lead and lag indicators.
  • Conduct internal audits and Compliance reviews to identify areas of improvement and recommend corrective actions. 
  • Ensure strategy and action plans are managed and implemented within the time frames identified. 
  • Collaborate with teams to establish and maintain effective governance practices, including the development of compliance training programs. 

Risk 

  • Lead the organisation to an understanding of better risk management practice. 
  • Develop and manage a Risk Management Strategy and Work Plan. 
  • Implement an Enterprise and Safety Risk Register and Central Risk Assessment databases. 
  • Ensure risk assessment processes and risk management solutions are embedded in management systems. 
  • Contribute findings and learnings to improving the organisation’s risk management maturity. 
  • Support risk owners to understand and embed processes for managing risk. 

Health and Safety Management

  • Develop and implement a Safety Management System, policies & procedures informed by evidence and contemporary approaches. 
  • Complete Incident Investigation and Reporting 
  • Build capability through coaching and support to manage, influence and inspire a positive safety culture. 
  • Lead work health and safety continuous improvement programs and initiatives. 
  • Promote wellbeing and mental health initiatives. 
  • Ensure fit for purpose, relevant Health and Safety education is developed and delivered. 

Quality 

  • Develop the Clinical Governance Framework and subsequent Quality Plan including Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) 
  • In conjunction with the Head of Operations ensure successful operation of feedback and incident management systems, tools, processes and reports. 
  • Ensure successful operation of audit management systems, tools, processes and reports. 
  • Lead continuous improvement of Quality systems and assess the effectiveness. 
  • Demonstrate and champion the principles of Person-Centered Care. 
  • Educate and prepare work areas for accreditation visits to ensure that visits are efficient, correct information is provided and operational impacts are minimised. 
  • Be the Quality Commissions liaison concerning all accreditation and Quality requirements. 

Emergency Management 

  • Assess key business risks (Loss of critical IT (data and voice), loss of access or services at premises, loss of critical equipment, loss of mobility (fleet, fuel, lockdown, natural disasters), loss of critical third-party service providers, and staffing challenges. 
  • Develop, implement, monitor emergency response systems. 
  • Ensure business continuity and disaster management processes. 
  • Implement training programs for key staff to manage the response and recovery of incidents impacting the organisation and build the knowledge and awareness of the crisis management and business continuity program. 

Workers Compensation 

  • End to end management of worker compensation program including policies, procedures and Compliance.
  • Completes the reputable statements and manages the WorkCover policy with the agent. 
  • Develop and embed early intervention and injury management processes. 
  • Deliver sustainable return to work outcomes.
