ABOUT THE POSITION
The Financial Controller is a key driver in supporting Regional Housing to achieve its strategic and growth objectives, strengthening fiscal management and providing performance reporting. Managing change in a dynamic environment and developing strong working relationships with the Management Team to improve financial intelligence, ensure accountability, accurately inform decision making and enable greater operational efficiencies.
This is a full-time role (76 hours per fortnight) based in Bundaberg.
Your primary duties will include:
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and tax reporting requirements.
- Prepare financial reporting and financial acquittals by due dates.
- Oversee the operation of the Finance team ensuring that service requests, treasury function, financial records and journals for month end, accounts payable, accounts receivable, asset management and other financial and administrative documentation are actioned and reconciled by due dates.
- Coordinate the maintenance of the fixed asset register, including assets purchased with government funds, assuring all are in accordance with legislation and regulations.
- Identify areas for process improvement and implement streamlined financial reporting process and procedures in order to improve data quality and efficiency.
- Drive the transactional services function forward, including improving the vendor invoice processing and billing process.
- Leading a team of 4 direct reports, providing ongoing training, coaching and future career development.
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in financial reporting and analysis and a proven ability to produce financial reports and funding proposals.
- Demonstrated experience in building a high performing team.
- A working knowledge of the statutory requirements of the sector including relevant Acts of Parliament and other guidelines and standards and thorough knowledge of contemporary financial management practice and the requirements of public funding.
- Experience of developing & embedding control frameworks.
- Experience of managing a transactional services function.
- Demonstrated experience in continuous process improvement initiatives, i.e., looking for ways to deliver efficiencies by challenging current processes, systems and outputs.
- Experience in the implementation of a new ERP system.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND EMPLOYMENT CHECKS
- A tertiary qualification in Business Accountancy/Finance/Commerce or a related field.
- Current membership with an accredited professional body, such as CPA Australia (Certified Practising Accountants) or the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand.
- Minimum 5 year’s experience in a senior financial management position, with at least 10 years of practical financial experience
- Current Queensland Drivers Licence (C Class).
- Successful pass achieved on Queensland’s Working with Children Check - Positive Notice Blue Card issued by Blue Card Services.
- Clearance achieved on NDIS Worker Screening Check (or state equivalent)
