The Role
In a newly created position, you will report to the Managing Director and work closely with operational leads to help them understand their business and implement systems that will facilitate rapid growth. You’ll influence and advise on strategic growth to executive leadership, oversee all financial activities and ensure compliance. You’ll be someone who thrives being hands on, is commercially astute and provides timely, accurate and actionable insights that enhance decision-making. Your duties will include, but not be limited to:-
- Support leadership by providing essential financial, strategic, and leadership advice.
- Prepare the annual budget and conduct thorough analyses of technical financial statements and work papers, reports, and forecasts.
- Forecast, monitor, and manage cash flow to ensure optimal liquidity for smooth operations.
- Drive the development, improvement and implementation of accounting and financial management systems, policies, and procedures.
- Lead a high-performing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
- Develop and implement improved costing processes for projects.
- Assist the Project Delivery team in analysing costings and preparing comprehensive reports.
- Oversee project costs and forecast costs, comparing them to allocated budgets
- Ownership of the month-end process, including ensuring financial data and reporting are accurate, reconciliations are complete and reviewed, and month-end is closed within agreed timetables
About You
As this is a newly created position, your role will grow and evolve with the business. A member to a professional accounting body, you will be experienced operating at this level or ready to take on your first Financial Controller role, possessing experience within a relevant, project based industry. This company places an emphasis on building and nurturing strong partnerships with their clients and you will too. The ability to work collaboratively with Managers in other departments and build productive working relationships is paramount.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance (or similar), plus CPA or CA qualification preferred.
- Proven experience in a senior accounting/financial management role, preferably in the construction industry.
- Excellent leadership skills, with a strong emphasis on coaching and mentoring.
- Specialist knowledge in taxation, financial reporting, and/or audit desirable
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Results-oriented mindset with a focus on overcoming obstacles and managing competing priorities.
- Ability to lead change and drive continuous improvement of finance systems, policies, and procedures.
- Proficiency in critical and analytical thinking and trend analysis.
- Customer-oriented approach with a focus on building positive relationships
