About the role
Giant Steps’ teachers work collaboratively in a dynamic team of teacher aides, speech therapists, occupational therapists and music therapists. Teachers are supported by Giant Steps’ therapists in the classroom to deliver the curriculum and understand and implement a range of strategies and supports to enhance the teaching and learning experience of students. Giant Steps has an established inclusive, neuro-affirming culture that it actively seeks to foster through acceptance and understanding of the child as an individual.
Giant Steps is committed to innovation across all facets of the school. The Giant Steps staff team includes over 20 teachers, 50 teacher aides, 8 speech therapists, 8 occupational therapists and 7 music therapists. These staff support 103 students across our primary and secondary schools.

Duties and responsibilities
- To deliver quality teaching for students on the Autism Spectrum, including the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the class program
- To design, implement, assess and report the progress of students according to their Individual Plan
- To design and implement differentiated teaching resources specifically targeting the individual needs of their students
- To implement strategies supporting student engagement within the program
- To collaborate effectively within the trans-disciplinary team
- To support and manage teacher aides in the class team
- To respect and support colleagues and families through positive communication
- To actively ensure the ongoing inclusion of students on the Autism Spectrum within their school and wider community
Essential criteria
- Relevant degree
- Accreditation with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA)
- First aid certificate or be willing to obtain one
- Have an active approach to interacting and engaging with children
- Effective member of a team with excellent communication skills
- Understanding of supporting students on the Autism Spectrum or willing to participate in professional development in this area
