The AO5 Health and Safety roles are fundamental to workplace engagement, workforce capability building and WHS compliance and advisory services for designated localised QPS business units. While Health and Safety Advisors work within local business support units, they are part of the centralised QPS Safety Group which includes senior, principal and manager level WHS practitioners.
There are distinct career paths within the Safety Group enhanced by further opportunities to move across to related areas within Health and wellbeing, and elsewhere within the Service, depending on your qualifications and experience.

The core capability requirements for this role are:
* Coordinate a broad range of Health and Safety activities throughout the Region/Command/Corporate Services including consultative processes and networks, workplace inspections, organisational audits and continuous improvement initiatives
* Develop and implement local strategies, systems and procedures in support of strategic QPS Health and Safety policies and initiatives
* Coordinate the identification and assessment of workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments, and develop control strategies to address potential hazards to the Health and Safety of members
* Facilitate and/or conduct incident and accident investigations and investigation management
* Prepare submissions, reports, briefings and other relevant documentation relating to Health and Safety issues and initiatives
* Provide advice and support to managers and staff on all aspects of Health and Safety, including the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Regulation 2011, the Safer and Healthier Workplaces Initiative, and other relevant Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Standards
* Develop, coordinate and deliver Health and Safety training programs and information products to regional personnel
* Coordinate the collection, recording and analysis of Health and Safety data to produce recommendations and reports to Regional management
Role Requirements:
Mandatory:
* C Class drivers licence and intrastate travel is a requirement of this position
Qualification:
* While a qualification is not essential, a relevant qualification in Health and Safety would be highly regarded.
* Possession of a Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety or similar relevant qualification, and experience in maintaining a compliant safety management system, would be highly regarded.

* The successful applicant may be required to participate in a 24 hour on-call roster
* The successful applicant may occasionally be required to support critical incident and disaster management responses.
* Interstate travel, most often within the geographical area of responsibility, is a requirement of this position.
